I shall not leave you waiting, heres my photo of the wad of cash I came home with. Tomorrow I'm going up to the bank to deposit some, and buy some diodes off DTR :)

I couldn't find anymore room on my computer desk for the other wad of 50's I had in my back pocket. Gambling IS NOT a good idea. I just happened to win on $50. Think before you act :)

I can't even close my iphone wallet with all the 50's in it. So time to go visit the bank and buy a 520-B1 off mr DTR. And when it arrives, burn stuff with it :) (or should I get one of those evil 1W green diodes?) :)

Anyway, I am happy!

Ahuh! I know what I'm going to do with it - replace my iPad! It went down a flight of stairs and ended up very, VERY broken. :)

Congrats! That's quite a lot money indeed. I used to have quite a big pile of cash stashed too, well that was until I needed a 589nm laser :D

The 1W 520nm diodes are pretty sick from what I have seen, and they are usually driven up to 1.4W. You could let someone make a host for you as well.

On the other side, you can also get a couple hosts and fit cheaper modules in. Like one with a 462nm, one with a 520nm and another one with 405 or 635nm. All up to you.

I'm just dying to know, and I'm sure others are too.....umm....what are the pokies?

Unless it's just a typo and you meant ponies, then...nevermind.

Pokies - aka poker machine - many of you will more commonly know them as slot machines. Every bar and club over here usually has a room full of the bloody things. Usually one of the only places one can smoke on premises too... Here in australia we call them pokies. I was playing the 5 dragons game by aristocrat. I played $3 a spin about four or five times and then the machine went nuts, sounded alarms and the credit meter went off its tits. In total it racked up $2450 :) (those familiar with the game, i picked the blue dragon. The feature was triggered by 5 gold coins, not the usual 3).

There was quite a few onlookers (and a few beers bought) as the fanfare played and played and played (until I got sick of it and pressed the take win button) :)

Went to the apple store yesterday - now the proud owner of a new ipad air 2. After setting it up (I took my mac mini into the apple store) the first app I bought using my US itunes account? 5 dragons by aristocrat - in other words I now have my own portable poker machine LOL!) Then proceeded to ask the apply guy "Can I have an iphone 6 as well please" - both are 128gb models. Should have seen the look on the guys face when I pulled out the wad-o-cash at the register. "Did you rob a bank or something!" We both chuckled. Off to go check out hosts for the 520-b1 diode I just ordered off DTR :)

That's awesome. I want to buy myself a new iPhone as well but everytime I save up enough to buy one I end up buying another laser :D

I'll probably get myself one when the 6S or whatever it's going to be called releases. I'll be getting an iPad as well at some point, but I'm waiting for the rumored iPad pro with the bigger screen to be released.

Enjoy your stuff, and a +rep for the story :)

I dont think anything bigger than an ipad air 2 will be that useful or more to the point, portable. My surface pro 3 (a 12 inch tablet/laptop) is plenty big enough, yet small enough to carry everywhere. I bought that machine in preparation to get a quickshow set to do laser light shows with. Perfect size, and since its a touch screen, perfect for picking cues in time to music. My demo copy of quick show has run out now so time to think about ordering a quickshow set and retiring my FrameStreamer 2 :)

Since I use my surface pro 3 as a work machine ( in essence for programming radio gear and laser show stuff), I dont like carrying it everywhere, so decided to make an ipad my "daily driver" computer. Its main purpose is to do email, play games, watch movies and read books. (and hop on forums like this one - my first post from the ipad LOL!)

Thanks for the rep guys :)

edit: oh and I showed my friend the ipad yesterday and the first one said "what games do you have on it - is that what you blew your pokie winnings on". I said "hows a bout a little bit of recent history" and fired up the 5 dragons game. "oh my god you can play pokies on that thing?!" "yes but you cant win on it" (credit meter showed $300 "Hey matt, can I cash in?" (to the barman) he just laughed and wanted a go :)

Needless to say, my ipad was pretty much the centre of attention at the bar last night, everyone wanting to have a game of 5 dragons or dolphins treasure. Seems poker machines are more popular when you're not loosing your shirt :)

edit2: Just to reinterate I am not condoning gambling. Just because I won, doesnt mean you will. Do not go out and put money you can't afford into a gaming machine. Your chances of hitting the big one are about as easy as getting a hole in one in golf, landing a 747 with no prior experience, or getting behind the wheel of a F1 race car without stealing it :p I sadly saw this first hand when I returned to the pokies room after collecting my winnings (to have a smoke, not to play again) and watched someone madly feeding 50 after 50 into the machine I'd just collected from - probably hoping to get the same outcome I did. That poor chap left empty handed. Slot machines are the "lowest" form of gambling and are geared to pay to the house, not the player. Its a rare occurrence that someone wins a half decent jackpot like I did. Having worked in a bar before, I know that where I was, our pokies took more money than what changed hand over the bar. And it was a pretty busy little pub too. Some of the cash boxes in the machines would hold upwards of $15,000 and there were 20 machines in the joint, each taking similar earnings. :)

I'm not sure what I'd do with that money. It most likely wouldn't go toward electronics unless it was a laser or Samsung tablet. Even then, I probably wouldn't get a tablet. Don't really have a need or use for one. I'd probably spend it on 50 BMG ammo or reloading supplies.
