To quote my former boss, Andrew Grove........"Only the Paranoid Survive". hehe You will start to expect them around every corner and then speeding will become a thing of the past friend. :)

It used to be like that in the beginning. Know its like a habit  I'll slow down maybe for the drive after I get pulled over. But after that its back to being a speed devil. :eg:

Nah, with time you learn exactly where they like to stand, if you drive similar routes, and learn where to expect them....

Also doesn't hurt if they think you're one of them, and they just wave as you shoot past:p

Show for court date- if the officer is not there you may get a dismissal if you see him there approach the judges clerk and POLITELY request a postponment and maybe he will be a no-show for that date-happened to me like that once.

I asked a judge once if I was required to suddenly reduce my speed and if I had another vehicle close behind me ,& would i not be doing an action that would or could result in an accident. I told the judge the my view of the speed sign was blocked and I did not see it with enough time to slow gradually and knew the car behind was too close...Hinting that the officer was not being honest will backfire on you. School zones get special treatment so you do not want to be saying that the speed zone is not needed. GOOD LUCK

There was a car right behind me that I'm sure was going the same speed. I'm pretty sure he picked me out of all the other people speeding. Maybe I look the most suspicious? Or because of the detector.

My cousin is a lawyer maybe ill talk to him then go to court. Do you know how much the extra court fees are exactly if you lose?

I really wish this guy was in my city :D

Driving these has saved me from tickets more times then I care to count;)

And no, to answer your next question I'm not a cop. I just happened to like the cars... they are big, with the chip and good tires they are pretty fast, very reliable, and survive abuse very very well. Also... well... can't beat having the left lane to yourself now can you?:p

Not driving like a maniac also helps... I suck at that.

The reason you got picked out is you're young, you're in a flashy car, and you're driving. That's three strikes already and enough reason for many cops to pull you over regardless of anything else, because more often than not, they know they will get you for something:gun:

Edit: Does anyone know what happens if you're driving in another country and get a speeding ticket? Would they accept the excuse in Canada that I thought the speed limits were in miles?:p

Oh, BELIEVE ME, I know. The typical reaction is a look at the rear view mirror, breaks, followed by moving over to the right. At this point I've learned to spot the tell tale head bob as a person looks in the mirror.

Of course the idiot reaction is SLAMMING on the breaks, and slowing to the speed limit.... and continuing to drive in the same lane. This is happening more and more often. Either that, or people just plain don't use their mirrors.

"I love to annoy cops"
That would be Karma catching up with you then...

And as a new parent I will ask, How many kids have to be seen for you to consider the school zone "busy" ? Are you sure that you could see EVERYWHERE that a child might be coming from ? Are your reflex actions super fast EVERY time ?
I have always slowed down for school and playground zones. I can't think of how I could live with myself if I injured or killed some child who was playing or distracted when on the way to school because I was trying to shave just a few more seconds off the time it takes to get where I am going.
Any life saved is worth being late. If I really want to not be late I just leave a few minutes earlier.
When you travel at 50% over the posted speed you will travel 50% farther when you hit your brakes to stop. THAT is why the speeds are posted as they are. The time it takes to come to a stop from the posted speed is the limiting factor. If you take 50% farther to stop you will inflict up to 4 times the damage to a person hit.
What might be a nasty bump or near miss easily becomes deadly for a little bit of speed.

Perform a death defying act - slow down.

Just don't ask me about the other roads...

The thing I failed to mention is that the school zone speed limit sign isnt actually in a school zone, you have to keep going a while before you actually enter the area where kids walk. And your right about reflexes, no there isn't as much time to react if a kid jumps out of no where, but as I mentioned the sign is not in a actual school zone and there was 0 kids. Also its not like I was going 100mph, I was going 30 Mph in area where there are no sidewalks or kids yet. Seems safe enough for me..

I would feel the same way if I hit a kid. :cryyy:

Me neither, Um what speed limit? :D

Oh Ya I love to annoy cops because they like to annoy me. Maybe Karma is gonna catch up on them one day. :eg: The times Ive seen cops breaking the law, speeding while not on a call, not wearing seat belts, parking in a no parking area for lunch, etc....

Re: I Hate Lasers

Yeah, I've seen my share of cops breaking the laws for their own purposes. It eventually catches up with them.

And I wasn't only directing my questions to you Haloid as others have stated that they also speed. Rather, I was placing the questions out there for everyone to consider. How much time savings is worth an innocent life ?
I use the same sorts of observations and knowledge of the areas involved to dictate if I will meet or exceed posted speeds as well, like you, but not in the school or playground zones.
I have always been aware that the world is far bigger than children can ever know and they don't always remember that there are others out there that can hurt them, even if unintentionally. Sometimes all it takes is wanting to share a new song they learned on the week-end or a neat thing they just saw or they have gym class that day and they really like gym class and suddenly they are in the roadway...
Nope !
Not worth the risk.
I will always be happy to be late and say "I didn't hurt anybody on my way here today."
And I have been driving with that in mind for 25+ years now.

But enough of my preaching...geez. It's like I have nothing better to do today here at work.

Great advice. I respect your judgment beacuse you have kids and you have a lot more driving experience/wisdom :p

You realize of course that in doing so, you're basically FORCING the cop behind you to plug your license plate into his computer... and once he sees that the flashy vehicle in front of him is registered to a 17 year old kid, and without a clean driving record....

Even if you're doing NOTHING wrong, and the cop is annoyed enough, he WILL pull you over. Believe me, he will always find a reason for why he pulled you over after the fact. For example unsafe driving. He can say you were weaving within the lane... his word against yours, you have an expensive ticket. Or even a spec of dust anywhere on your car or windshield... all of a sudden again, he spent 10 minutes of his life writing a ticket, you'll spend hours of your life dealing with and the consequences.

Don't annoy cops. You'll be happier that way, and so will they.

The question of speed, reaction time and stopping distance is a bit more complicated than simply saying that if you drive 25mph you are driving in a safe manner.

The reality is if a kid or anything else pops out 10 feet in front of you it will not make the slightest bit of difference whether you're going 25mph or 40mph. You still won't have time to even hit the breaks. It is an unfortunate and sad bit of human limitation. If the end result is the same, does it really matter what speed you get to it?

When I got my last speeding ticket, many years ago, (when I was beating up a rental car for a bit of fun:eek:) the cop gave me a lecture saying that I was going too fast, and what if a mother with a child in a stroller was crossing the road as I was driving. I wouldn't have time to stop.

Just one small problem... I was on am empty five lane 35mph road, with no traffic lights, intersections, or cross walks in any direction for quite a distance, so what exactly would anyone be doing crossing there? Or to what? He got really pissed when I asked that, ticket was already written though, so it's not like I had anything to lose, but cops really hate it when you use common sense:p

Now that said, school zones are a special case, and I generally never speed in them. In many cases what defines a school zone is somewhat ridiculous though. One of the four tickets I've gotten in my ten years of driving was in a 25mph school zone. The school itself was actually half a mile away, across from, and sitting right next to a four lane road where the speed limit is 35mph though. Made no sense whatsoever:can:

Ultimately to my way of thinking, the driver should be more responsible and aware of the road conditions, and how to drive safely, than signs posted over twenty years ago. Present road conditions, visibility, type of car, and car load, all of that is something I take into account when driving. Does that mean I'm speeding? Most of the time yes it does. Does that mean I'm driving in an unsafe manner. Absolutely not.

Re: I Hate Lasers

I agree with you. Its all about the money. And this was my dads car, he never changed the registration. :). And he has a clean driving record. Well that's if all the camera tickets I got don't count. :D Don't even get me started about cameras they are a whole diffrent story :/

Oh ya and one thing I noticed, if you try and argue common sense with them and you are right they will write you a ticket. If you suck it up and pertend they are right you will ussually get a warning.

Really depends on the cop. I've talked my way out of a few tickets over the years. It helps to be polite but not obsequious, and to be honest. In general if you can get them to laugh, they'll drive off or reduce the ticket offense to something a lot less. I had a cop write me a ticket for obstructed field of view for going 92mph in a 55mph once... funny thing is, the beat up piece of crap taurus I was driving at the time (my second car) the speedometer only went up to 85mph:p
