I Fried My DMM - Can I Just Replace the Fuses?

I think I fried my DMM because it wont measure anything whether its voltage, current or resistance.

Can I just replace the fuses? Or do I likely need a new meter?

Depending on the design of the fuses, you might be able to inspect them visually and see if they were melted.

Obviously the fuses are going to be cheaper. TRY changing the fuses first.

I just pulled it apart. One of the fuses is definitely blown. I will just try that first.

Voltage isn't fused (to my knowledge). If it won't measure voltage, it's probably borked.

I guess you need a new DMM.
I've got 2 DMM's at the moment. one can't measure voltage, the another can't measure current on th 2mA, 20mA and 200mA ranges :na:

Well it looks like there's a fuse for both of the positive lead positions. The 200mA fuse is blown which would be lead terminal used to measure voltage. So I'm going to try to replace it and see what happens.

That's where the fuse usually is - on the low current settings.
Take it apart and replace it

Um, did you by chance not swap your leads from the current measuring input to the voltage-measuring input? The current measuring input might be fuse-blown, but the voltage measurement should still work.

I was trying to measure a few things on my 100W LED and driver and Im not sure what part did it but the 200mA is blown for certain.

Its funny I was looking at the fuses because the 10A is not a glass tube but what looks like ceramic coated and I thought "I should check if this one is blown too...ill just go grab my multi....damn."

I think its this 200mA fuse. If not I will probably buy a nicer meter (maybe a nice fluke) but it is good to know they can be had so cheap on DX.

I was testing continuity on some terminals in a control panel at work one day. Without thinking about changing the range, I tested the panel's 480v 3 phase input...... the whole case lit up like a lightbulb, made a loud crack, and billowed smoke. Lol, yup that one was toast. :D
