A ground screw might help. Search this forum for what is a ground screw and its implementation.

I guess when you're already screwed in the head, a ground screw might not be the first thing that comes to mind :p

Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie: Won't work, no ground lead or rod for it. I've never seen one properly grounded yet.

Aluminium Foil Deflector Beanie is basically a Faraday cage and does not need to be grounded to work. If my memory of college physics is still intact-a Faraday cage works by the fact that all parts of the cage are at the same potential, including all the parts surrounding the interior, so there will be no electric field gradient in the interior. The actual potential of the cage doesn't matter, so it doesn't need to be grounded to be effective.

A Faraday cage eventually loses its energy to heat due to resistance, and you don't need to ground the cage.

The field inside the cage would be flat, and there would be a gradient of zero (unless you were also generating fields with some power source inside). I think you could look at the surface of the cage as reflective, both for radiation that originates inside it and radiation that originates outside it. You could say any wave induces a current that induces another wave, so it reflects; or you could say it was a reflector, and there is another virtual universe on the far side of it, like you can think of mirrors in

Now if your aluminium foil deflector beanie was hit by lightning then you would need a ground.

True statement, there are virtual universes inside all of our noggins, some more accurate than others.

Human capacitiy to imagine is a unique capacity---everything is possible in imagination, not so in the real world---therein lies the room for a great deal of fun and exploration of what is and might be and what is not and can't be.

We all think that we know what is real. All we have to do is reach out and touch it. Yet, we also know that we dream, and our dreams are as real to us when we dream as our external world is to us when we are awake. We dismiss our dreams as unreal, but we do this only when we are not in the dream world. When in the dream world, we acknowledge its reality fully, only to deny it again when we leave.

Then why do people pinch themselves to check if they are dreaming?

:D

No one has ever actually seen what is happening around them in real time of course, due to the lag time in our brain's processing. Test have shown that the lag is an average of 1/10 second or so.

In a dream though, nothing IS happening EXCEPT the brain's processing, so, theoretically, THAT is when we are "seeing" in real time.

Of course, the primary difference of consequence is not the lag as much as the reality itself.

What WE imagine is, essentially by definition, WHAT we IMAGINED.

IE: It is not reality, it is our imagination.

If you want to say our imagination is real, you'd need to define it as a real thought, but, not a reality on par with your conscious reality.

For example: You are dreaming that you are on a beach, getting a tan, sipping drink and checking out the swedish bikini team....

...and, during that very dream, your house is on fire, and, the carbon monoxide has left you unconscious, while your bed ignites and starts to consume you.

Is it reality that you can stay on that beach tanning with the bikini babes, or, is it reality that you are going to be toast?

I'm going with toast not tan for your reality.

So, its true that you CAN explore inside your own mind, but, its the cave exploring itself.

Your brain is already there, and, its doing the exploration of itself.

The KEY is that your CONSCIOUS state CAN be unaware if the REST of what's going on in there.

So the cave exploring itself is akin to a newborn baby figuring out those are HIS OWN hands waving about by his face, and he can CONTROL them, etc.

I shouldn't have said there are virtual universes in our heads, we don't really know much about anything out there, still trying to understand the world right under our noses, sometimes even more of a challenge; ourselves. Just stating the obvious, we learn about the world around us and in doing so, rebuild neural images of it inside, sort of a world within a world, as many of them as there are individuals and no two exactly alike.

Hence the reference to a baby exploring himself, etc.

I think the term used way back was "Intranaut".

I liked that way of looking at it. Here's a photo which reminds me of how we build our own realities about the world, too bad it's just a photoshop:

imag_zpsytkpa0av.jpg

Not that we cannot build fairly accurate models within, if we could not do so, we would never have all of the wonderful things which come from the understanding of physics we have. Of course, it helps to have highly accurate external logic-brains now, with our computers to better model our desired creations, as long as we don't fill them with garbage. For our physics, a peer consensus review is a great filter, even in forums, having the opinions of many helps to straiten us out.

Ugh.... is "woo woo" an actual phrase? Laser Projector always posted crap labeled "woo woo" science, and I just assumed that was a phrase he made up. I also assumed it was over, but I see that the nonsense has infected others :(

Yes it is an actual phrase. Unfortunately we live in a land of "Woo Woo" and it will never be over.

I've been hearing Woo Woo all over the place to diss the people who believe in unscientific things which have a new age kind of bent to them. Let me say this, most of our society would be off the chart woo woo to people who lived a hundred years ago if they were to somehow travel through time to see our world today.

I goo Wooooo when I see a high power 532nm green laser piecing the night sky :)

If "woo woo" is a term that refers to (according to urban dictionary) "Unfounded or ludicrouse beliefs - Belief in talking to the dead, belief in telikenesis, in fact any belief not founded on good evidence, the poorer the evidence the more Woo Woo the belief."

Then our society would look like "woo woo" to people who lived a hundred years ago, but only because a hundred years ago, what we have scientifically proven today, hadn't been proven yet.

That's an irrelevant point however, and has no logical impact on the degree of stupidity that should be associated with this "woo woo" crap today. This crap, has not been proven correct, and there's no reason to believe that it will be, a hundred years from now.

You're attempting to argue that because some things that were "woo woo" science a hundred years ago actually turned into solid science today, things that are "woo woo" science today have credibility. That's a ridiculous logical fallacy (are you sure you're not Laser Projector reincarnated?? lol). Instead of reading about this nonsense, why not read up on logical reasoning and logical fallacies? I guarantee you that will prove useful and relevant reading TODAY.

Good points however there is woo woo and there is woo woo.

Seems to me there are two kinds of human thoughts: Those that handle the physical that does exist and...those that handle the non-physical that is fiction that doesn't exist

People worldwide neverendingly seem to enjoy, be entertained by, and find useful both types of thoughts, not just one or the other. People are not logical beings and are more often than not driven by emotion and imagination----logic is only one tool and a small part of human experience and decision making.

Seems to me that most of the planet is involved in and with woo woo of one kind or another and basing many behaviors indeed much of everyday life's activities on same. Everyone can think of a thousand examples.

Given the limitations of the human mind, understanding, knowledge, memory, and perception, it isn't going to change anytime soon.
No matter our scientific theories, no matter our human religions, reality in any absolute sense remains a mystery! It's as simple as that!

Good point.

Essentially, whenever some one comes up with a new potential explanation, it IS typically dismissed as ludicrous...and, later, MAYBE found to actually work, etc.

The differences between that, and those 'potential explanations" is that time typically passes, and, we get to find out if they were woo woo #1 = future science that merely pissed off people present at its inception, or, woo woo #2, which ends up being just crap.

Some people can tell the difference better than others.

People who's world view is supported by dismissing the new idea tend to dismiss it, and, those who's world view is supported by accepting the idea tend to accept it.

A scientist who spent his whole life trying to prove that HIS theory is the best one to explain something, HAS a vested interest in dismissing a DIFFERENT theory...it can mean he's wasted his life otherwise....so, he clings as long as he can to his theory....But SCIENCE rejects it, and moves on looking for BETTER EXPLANATIONS.

A new age guy who spends HIS whole life promoting, say crystals, as having healing powers, who sees a study that says they don't, WILL be more likely to dismiss it...as, otherwise, he has wasted HIS life, and so on and so forth...and other purveyors of fine healing crystals will in no way try to change the belief in their healing powers either.

The primary DIFFERENCE in these cases, is that science, by its very nature, is CONSTANTLY challenging itself, and a key type of experiment is the kind DESIGNED TO DISPROVE their hypothesis.

OTHER scientists will work TO disprove YOUR hypothesis....and, if they can, no matter what YOU say, they KNOW your hypothesis was wrong, BECAUSE they COULD disprove it.

So science is self correcting over time....hence our ability to type to each other here, etc.

On the other hand, superstitious beliefs are NOT self correcting, as there ARE NO mechanisms to refute them WITHIN the belief system.

So if some ancient Indian or Mesopotamian religion claims that their god created the world and had the first man and woman (made from his rib) living in a paradise, but were tricked by a talking snake into eating something that taught them right from wrong, but that they were not allowed to eat, so, all of their descendants were therefore cursed....when they ate it....and then found out it was wrong to, because eating it is when they first knew right from wrong...

We might look at that ancient religion as just ancient superstition....as quite silly compared to what we now believe thousands of years later.

So, just because the ancient Bronze Age Mesopotamians might have believed that stuff, doesn't mean modern people would fall for it.

....Unless of course there is no internal self correcting mechanism, which would of course have eliminated and/or replaced silly stories like that....so the stories become analogous to those told by purveyors of fine healing crystals.

So, that's the difference between woo woo #1 and woo woo #2.
