CCleaner is used for clearing out "junk" files that accumulate like temp files, browser cookies, some system logs, etc. Running it will recover disk space and it's a great program, but it won't fix malware problems.

Malwarebytes is great for scouring the system once you've discovered a problem (or when you're feeling paranoid). For preventative measures, I highly reccomend keeping an up-to-date install of Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast! running. Both are great antivirus programs, and are completely free. I strongly dislike McAffee and Norton- not only are they an unnecessary expense, they're poorly designed apps that are ineffective, waste resources, and will hold your computer hostage if your subscription expires.

Avast is awesome, and so is Malwarebytes. I'll take a look at that Smitfraud fix it, had not heard of it.

That is true for the most part however I've had success with weird browser problems in the past by simply running ccleaner. It may or may not fix his problem so it seemed worth suggesting. Avast is golden too, didn't think of recommending that one.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Comodo firewall. Both free, never had any infections. Highly recommend that combo.

CCleaner cleans cookies, one of my standard steps for fixing "weird browser problems". :)

Indeed, same here Zero. Ccleaner also cleans out index.dat files, old/faulty registry files and TMP files alongside any clutter your browser has accumulated as previously mentioned. The 'windows security alert' yobresal mentioned in his original post has been resolved for me in the past with Ccleaner. I've seen this activity before but not in awhile.

It's also good to know that some malware will pop windows up on your screen making it look like your pc is infected when in fact it's just an advertisement for antivirus software or the process to complete a partial, unintentional install the user is not aware of. When this happens (!ALERT you have a virus, CLICK HERE) the only options you have take you to a webpage insisting you need to download a 'fix' or purchase AV software.

Again, when yobresal describes more windows popping up when he closes the previous ones with his problem, this is a tell tale sign of infected cookies trying to complete some sort of process he unintentionally picked up recently. I did tech support for 8 years, I only know so much - however I can't stand the crap people write to annoy, infect, steal or destroy others people's data these days...

It sounds like you have a SmitFraud infection. I suggest you install Ad Aware Free Edition and/or AVG Anti-Spyware on your computer and run a complete system scan using the program(s). Don't just rely on one program, especially since your computer has already been infected. You can download them for free at CNET's download.com. The website below should give you some background information about the infection.
