we could do it over there in Brasil as well. Would be worth the experience...guess its fun. But I (dont) speak on word portugiuese...I would be the gallego...tall and dark blonde.

I said 'the crap: brazil' because here, everything 'new' is expensive, lasers are expensive, travelling to USA or germany is A LOTTA expensive.. hotel is expensive.. I think it should be cheaper if I travelled to USA..

I just finished catching up on this thread, been a bit distracted with school lately. I've got to finish drawing up my plans for the body of the main gun and then decide on whether or not to use a 5mW green for an aiming laser (Like you didn't see an aiming laser coming?

) or an old camera and an IR module for a bit more sneakiness. I do know that for now it'll be three stage, I'm aiming for hopefully 500J or so. I got a lead last night on some 50kV capacitors for a good deal, so if that works out who knows what my next project will be? :eg:

Hey, Proto! About the aiming laser, if you want something really interesting, you can go for the 20mW 635nm gb (for a 'aiming laser'), a 5mW module (for a 'agressitivity targeting laser') and a IR with some camera for a invisible targeting.. :eg: I thought of this before

Try to apply this power on the stages:
1st - 45%, 2nd - 35%, 3rd - 20%
and.. whats the energy your caps can store?

I'll probably stick with a 5mW 532 for now.

According to my math it's 134.75J per cap (each one is 350V @ 2200uF).

Right. Thats pretty high, as I seen coilguns with energies down as 30J... very good

you can always put they in series for a better efficiency (700v coilgun)... but you will end up with a harder to build boost driver.

I had planned on several caps (maybe four or five) in this design, it's fairly large. The caps have a bit different dimensions than I thought, so the design will have to change anyways. Should look a bit better than the last design.

4 seems reasonable. I have 400J of caps (250+150, 2 stages) and it seem fairly 'small'. Maybe you think that a coilgun weighing ~6kg isn't reasonable but, yes it is.

6kg isn't too bad. Gotta figure out where I'm going to get the trigger/handle assembly at, I've always been terrible at designing handles for things.

^ it depends on the power.

You can always buy a toy firearm and modify it (be sure to get a big one tho)...
