Or are lasers a strictly guy thing?
Or are lasers a strictly guy thing?
I'm sure when pink lasers come out there will be more girls.
...Looking for pink on spectral chart...
it would be made out of a few different wavelengths of course
I am SO giving up on making jokes...
In one day I bombed with the pink thing and "muzzle-loading plasma rifles".
Some things just don't come through in ASCII!
Muuuuuuuuuuuu....
heheh I had no idea that was a joke
We have them on two other laser forums for sure.
Steve
One of which is a better, sharper, engineer then Nick Tesla. She builds her own hardware, cuts her own code, and etches her own circuit boards, then hauls herself off to Burning Man, then does laser shows at raves.
Come on folks, engineering graduate students in the US are more then 35% female these days.
Or are you asking if there are female geeks?
"There are several" - Just curious. What percentage would that be?
I was asking about LPF.
You mean J.E.?
Nope.
Go over to P.L. Search for Heroic. Damn impressive in EE and Physics, and has a artistic side as well. Does not just do it for the day job.
Also on PL we have a new one who is really active, Laserchik. Its a bit easier to find them in the Laser Display community, on both the artistic and fieldwork side. I know of two that do their own fieldwork and two that own laser show companies. There is a third one who goes all over TN and KY doing raves and birthday parties to pay for her college. I can think of a lot more on the display side, and quite a few of them do hardware and code software.
One of the things on the display side is we have a few yearly meetings around the country and two big ones in the summer. Wives, Girlfriends and a few interested women show up, and they can either hang with the boys or arrange their own activities. Most hang around, split between half talking and playing the piano, and others watching the show in the auditorium. Ironically both males and females cook the daily lunches in the kitchens. Yes, we have guys who will drop a 5,000$ RGBV homemade projector and willingly run to play chef.
I think you could say pointers do not have much of a artistic/social side, and thus you will find few women.
One of the things I like about NHRA meets is you see women owners, mechanics, drivers, crew chiefs, and fans, so yes there are some technical hobbies that attract many women. Sailing and full size Airplanes do as well. (Not RC..)
Since ham radio has went to more of a "Appliance operator" crowd I do see a lot of women at hamfests and hear them on the air.
LPFs culture does not encourage meets and greets, which is sad.
