As long is it's all voluntary people can install whatever cameras and such in their cars if they want to.

Personally i don't like the idea of any cameras or microphones recording inside the vehicle - i consider that private space and want to be able to have a conversation inside the car that nobody ever needs to find out about.

One problem with dashcams is that you should probably encrypt the storage on them. I case you actually cause an accident they could otherwise work against you. An alternative would be a button that destructively wipes the storage.

In some cases it is preferable to not have any evidence even if you did nothing to violate the rules of the road. For example, in the netherlands, pedestrians and cyclists are considered 'vulnerable' and car drivers are almost always held responsible to accidents involving them even if they obeyed traffic law perfectly.

Even if you run over a totally drunk cyclist that is ignoring a red traffic light and riding on the wrong side of the road without any lights on nor functional brakes on his bike, you are liable for his damages.

In such cases it's best to be able to argue you just never collided or at least you did not notice and drive off as long as there is no serious injury that would require an ambulance - sad but true.

There's a lot of insurance fraud going on, a carload of people back into you at a red light and they all swear you hit them.

We have dash cams in all our cars.

My nephew has some of those covert camera glasses, I need to order some too for when things get crazy after the election. I hope I never need them, but it's better to have them if dealing with a home invader or any troublemakers.

I don't know where you live, but as i understand they have become popular in russia due to insurance companies requiring them as people randomly run into (stationary) cars just to claim some damages.

Plenty of examples in this short video.

This needs to go back to guns.

Nah, you should be allowed to actually drive them over, and preferably backup and do it a few more times.

This is unbelievable what is going on in California, I sure am glad I don't live there. California has a population of 39 - 40 million people.

Gov. Jerry Brown signs bulk of sweeping gun-control package into law, vetoes five bills - LA Times

This includes background checks just to buy ammo! And a state database of those who have purchased ammo!

Wow, they are supposed to turn in all their expensive pre ban magazines they already own and get a license to buy ammo.

I see a black market growing and crime increasing in California.

How in the hell are those constitutional? One of those bills effectively bans almost all semi-auto rifles. If scotus doesn't strike this kind of crap down we're truly screwed.

I'm not really sure how this is supposed to be effective - i reckon you could just drive over the state line and purchase your ammo, magazines etc there?

Not that legislation would deter people from commiting mass shootings in any case: europe would be a prime example with countries like belgium and france having a total ban on private gun ownership (except for some hunters etc), yet we have mass shootings by terrorists.

I suppose they are just not that concerned with having a few months prison sentence for illegaly owning firearms on top of life imprisonment for multiple homicides... or they just count on suicide vests actually working in which case they'd first have to re-assemble a corpse and then trhow that in jail for a few months

If you can't keep guns out of the hands of bad guys in prisons, you just aren't going to keep them out of anyplace that a bad guy wants them.

That only leaves only one option that makes sense.

Arm as many good people with guns as you can.

Notice all the government places that "really really" don't want guns there also have the most heavily armed security?

Making guns and gunpowder is 1000 year old tech, the tools for making guns and gunpowder are so simple you can make them out of just about anything anyplace anytime.

Besides more people are killed in stabbing anyway. Even if you could snap your fingers and make all guns vanish people would just stab each other instead. Somehow guns are just bad for some arbitrary or irrational fear reason.

Ofcourse you can make a rudimentary gun yourself - although it borders on rocket science to understand the inner workings, something like a musket but also a powerful cannon can be easily built.

What government fails to understand here is that limiting access to firearms does not limit, in any way, poeple that are intent to commit mass murder.

In some twisted way it may even limit the number of casualties. To be frank, people that use guns in an attempt to kill the maximum number of people are amateurs, idiots or both.

With a background in biochemistry i can certainly say there are more efficient ways of killing large crowds of people, and they can be carried using substances that would not alert authorities if chosen carefully.

Somehow it would worry me if guns and simple explosives became unavailable to terrorists, as the next step up from that is pretty terrible and could allow a single individual to kill tens of thousands with limited effort, and perhaps far larger numbers with serious effort.

Agreed 100%. There are things a terrorist or psycho could order off ebay right now which could be used to potentially kill hundreds or possibly thousands before people catch on. We should be thankful that the bad guys have been lacking in creativity, and just use the most convenient weapons to kill.

Default Re: Gun Discussion

I check safety seals and think about the Tylenol poisoning when I buy or open anything, it's a concern I have had as it lets 1 operative strike terror in multiple places and survive to kill again and again and the scare lasts well beyond the incident.

I have held back talking about it but it is very likely we will see all kinds of attacks in the future.

I am glad I don't take illegal dope brought in from god knows where, who knows what that bag of pot has in it, maybe you smoke it and die or just go blind.

Really it's going to be dam hard to win against an enemy willing to die, I am afraid it's going to be a lasting problem now.
