The Veterans Hospitals, etc, are essentially the government taking care of citizens' health...and no one is yelling about the veterans' benefits being a precursor to communism, etc.

The only difference is what job the people had before they got their free health care.

If they worked for the military, a perk is free health care.

All nationalized medicine is, is expanding that benefit to other employees too. Lets face it, some veterans were desk pilots who never saw combat...and some cops, etc, may have been in more fire fights than some vets.

So I am 100% in favor of taking car of our vets, they deserve it....in fact, the care should be much better...but, letting them go to ANY hospital or care center, etc....would expand the scope and quality of those services, not shrink it.

That is also not communism.

Saying that people who can't afford health care can get help to pay for it is not communism either. There's no gov hospital for people on medicaid/medicare, etc....all Obama Care does, typically, is expand the coverage to those who can't afford coverage, and create a larger pool that includes more healthy people.

You have to have car insurance for example. (If you have a car in this example)

It's mandatory. There are fines for not having it. There are minimum coverages that must be included. If only people who thought they might be in an accident had to have car insurance, premiums would be higher.

Making those who are potentially less likely to make a claim, also pay into the pool, makes your car insurance premiums lower.

Its the same principle for health insurance.

Of course, especially in the US, our medical costs have been skyrocketing since the 80's.

I ensured my company back then, and a family policy might be a grand or 2 per year, and individual a few hundred.

In the 80's, the premiums started going to the moon...and it has not really slowed much.

The $100 aspirin is still $100 essentially, the insurance is paying it...and, the premiums for private policies are ALL reflecting that...before, and after, Obama Care.

The new "patients" do include a LOT of people who had not gone for care because they could not afford it. Many who had jobs with insurance before 2008 for example, lost their jobs when the economy crashed worldwide....and lost their insurance when they lost their job.

Health insurance should NOT be mandatory. There should NOT be fines for NOT having health insurance. I'm seriously considering avoiding tax season because of that bull feces. FBHO.

The flip side to that argument is, health care should be available to ALL.

Regardless of income, or any other factor.

More so than the current legal requirement where a hospital is only required to stabilize a person enough to discharge them, not to actually treat them.

The problem I have with ACA, is Obama backed down on a key premise of it - the creation of a government run, non profit insurance agency. In backing down on it, ACA allows the insurance racket to grow and reap profits even more. It was too much of a compromise imo. I think in some ways it would have been better to allow the system to break altogether. Instead, now it will limp along (literally in some cases) indefinitely.

Who would pay for it though? The country is already trillions of dollars in debt. Having an overpaid congress that doesn't do anything and gets retirement after just a few years is one problem. Overpriced aircraft programs is another. I don't want my taxes increased. Taxes are already wasted as it is. I grew up in Alabama. Each county had its own board of education. Here is South Carolina, each county is divided into districts. Each has it's own board of education. What a waste of money. The value of your vehicle determines how much you pay for registration each year. Most of that money goes to the education system which is one of the worst in the country. I'm glad I don't have kids in school in this state.

I agree completely, I think our problem is that too much is handled at the federal level now and not at the state and county level, over the years government has become more centralized in D.C. and more bureaucratic and wasteful while power has been taken away from state, county, and municipal governments. Here education is also by district and not by county, and isn't very good, every year the teachers strike for more money, they are already among the highest paid people, even the janitors get paid a fortune and great benefits. I once looked into getting a job a few years ago and found it to be a very closed system open to only a wealthy elite. You had to have 3 letters of recommendation from former employers, proof of vaccinations, and you have to account for every year of employment or unemployment for quite a few years, I think it was 10 years, who can do that? They made it so the average person can't even apply for a job there! Here I don't think the vehicle licensing goes to education, but I am not sure, here it is paid for by property tax and also about 1% of the lottery money goes to education, not sure about the rest of their money, we have to vote on spending and taxes for education here nearly every year.

The government is mostly bad. It was understood by the authors of the constitution that the government was necessary, but that it needed to be constrained because it would seek power and would grow. The second amendment and article 5 of the constitution were written to address this. Jefferson wrote that he expected a revolution approximately every twenty years.

Nothing is free. Healthcare is not free, someone has to pay for it and forcing the taxpayer to pay for the support others is very close to theft. Communism and socialism are both based on theft. These are failed ideologies that are pushed on us because the elite that act as the gate keepers become wealthy without producing anything of value.

The more government grows the more time we have to spend defending ourselves from it and dealing with the nuances of operating within it.

It's not free, nothing is free, and I agree it should be provided.

Who pays for it? We do. We ALREADY do.

The problem is in how funds are used, and how hospitals, doctors, and insurance companies are being allowed to function.

The BIGGER problem is in how our government is allowed to function.

Up until about now, it wasn't really feasible imo, but we are technologically far enough along to where things can change.

That change has to begin with accountability through transparency. Any government run organization must be transparent, not just to other government agencies, but to the public at large.

You're right, but that doesn't make it right. It is still theft. It only means that the theft has been going on for some time.

I disagree. What you advocate is correct and it would be a good thing, but the government will not be transparent. We have a woman running for the democratic nomination who probably should be in jail or at least indited. We have no idea what the status of the investigation is, but without this knowledge how can we choose if she is qualified to be president?! Lois Learner is still roaming around free and no one has been fired for gross malfeasance at the IRS. Where are they dumping all the Syrian terrorists, Hmmm? The state governors can't even get the federal government to notify therm when refugees are released within their states. I could go on, but the point is that the Federal government is a mess. It is incompetent and at the same time corrupt. I DO NOT want them in charge of anything else and especially my health care.

The XM-855 ammo ban was halted during 2015 because of public outcry during the comment period that was required for making changes to existing rules, to make completely new rules there is still a process but to modify existing rules that carry the weight of law the alphabet agencies can now just make the changes.

THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF TRANSPARENCY.

Next time they will just change the rule without a public notification and comment period. The below supreme court decision applies to ALL ALPHABET AGENCIES.

The Supreme Court in 2015 ruled 9-0 that federal agencies do not have to follow procedures for notifying the public and collecting comment when changing the interpretations of rules, effectively removing steps from the process that can take months and sometimes years to complete.

The case, Perez v. Mortgage Bankers Association, stemmed from a longstanding Labor Department rule that determines which employees are eligible to earn overtime and minimum wage.

The Mortgage Bankers Association sued after the Labor Department changed its interpretation of the the rule to include mortgage loan officers. The bankers said Labor violated the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) by failing to provide time for provide public notice and time for comment.

But the high court unanimously rejected that argument in an opinion wrote by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

“Because an agency is not required to use notice-and-comment procedures to issue an initial interpretive rule, it is also not required to use those procedures when it amends or repeals that interpretive rule,” Sotomayor wrote.

The decision contradicts the D.C. Circuit Court’s Paralyzed Veterans doctrine, which holds that an agency must use the APA’s notice-and-comment procedures when it wishes to issue a new interpretation of a regulation that deviates significantly from one previously adopted.

Justice Samuel Alito said the Paralyzed Doctrine likely stemmed from fear that federal agencies were becoming too powerful and concerns that Congress was affording them too much lawmaking authority

“I do not dismiss these concerns, but the Paralyzed Doctrine is not a viable cure for these problems,” he said.

John Meyers, an attorney with Barnes & Thornburg, said the ruling gives the Labor Department, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the National Labor Relations Board a wide berth when it comes to promulgating rules outside of the normal agency rulemaking process, which requires notice, time for rebuttal and comment considerations from constituent groups.

“We can expect the current administration to use this ruling to back up its authority to pass new or change existing precedents,” he said.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "Alphabet Agencies" are independent establishments of the United States federal government which exist and function beyond the scope and jurisdiction of ordinary legislation and are NOT under the control of any agency, bureau or department of the executive, judicial or legislative branches of government.

Do you think you are going to hide your guns or gold and silver in your walls or in a burial tube, take a look at backscatter technology, ground penetration is like 20 meters I have heard and a foot of steel it will see right through.

Lead can be used as a surprisingly effective countermeasure. The most energetic x-rays have an energy of ~100 KeV. Anything above this is considered gamma AFAIK.

Here and here are some papers regarding x-ray shielding. I'd find the max required thickness for you, but I'm too tired and I'm worried I'd screw it up.

Right now lead is $0.73 USD/lb.
