"We still don't know all the facts. But we do know that several people have been shot and some have been killed," President Barack Obama said earlier Monday afternoon. "So we are confronting yet another mass shooting. And today it happened on a military installation in our nation's capital."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Washington DC, the city surrounding this navy yard, not have some of the most stringent gun control regulation anywhere in the US?

Isn't the navy yard a "gun free zone" (not sure about this)? As such how did a gunman ever end up on a gun free zone?

Bodies probably aren't even cold yet, but you can bet this will be brought up as another reason for more gun control.

I know the feeling. Probably wiser to hide your good guns now. Then when they come just quietly and calmly give them a couple lesser weapons and tell them all the others were stolen. What you might do after that ... I can't say on an open forum.

Nope, anything goes in the Other section except blatant NSFW, cursing, and trolling. Basically so long as things stay civil, anything goes.

I'm not so sure that Obama will be out of the office in two years. I mean he might well be ( I hope), but I also wouldn't be surprised if he attempted to circumvent the two term limit. Maybe blatantly. Maybe by having Michelle run.

I like Ron Paul. his stance on most issues is what it should be, to let the states decide for themselves. (10th amendment) really the only thing the feds should be doing according to the constitution is provide for the common defense and promote (but not provide) the general welfare.

A gun is a big threat to the society. In US, it is easy to get a gun illegally, but it is hard to own a gun legally.

Apparently, according to what I can find, anyone can LEGALLY make their own firearm provided it meets all state standards. So basically a 26 inch pipe with a firing pin is legal, yet most assault rifles are not. Genious.

Mass Shootings Fuel Fear, Account for Fraction of Murders

The mass slaughters listed in the report caused the deaths of 547 people. Over the same three decades through 2012, that’s less than a tenth of 1 percent of the 559,347 people the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates were murdered in America.
Mass Shootings Fuel Fear, Account for Fraction of Murders - Bloomberg

By the same logic seatbelts should be outlawed IMMEDIATELY. I mean after all there is the occasional person that's trapped inside a burning car and can't get out because their seat belt is stuck.

Edit: Given that this man played violent video games and was treated for mental illness (but not considered mentally ill) I expect we'll see a push for control, to take guns away from anyone who has any kind of mental disorders. You were depressed for a while after a family member died, took some pills to help you sleep? That's good bad, give up your gun, you're a danger to society.
