I haven't clocked my latest 300 BLK handloads yet.

I'm using H110 and 110gn Z-Max (green poly tip)

I lined up 3 milk jugs full of water and shot them. The first jug was turned inside out and the water turned to mist, the second jug burst in laf and the bullet penetrated the 3rd jug and was found at the bottom. The recovered bullet weighed 80gn and expanded to .55"x.64"

My best guess is I'm getting in excess of 2400 fps.

The penetration/fragmentation/expansion are right where I like.

I still plan to try out the 110 Barns TSX but it is over 2x the cost of the Z-Max and we see what the Z-Max did...

There is good ammo and a lot of guys like that hyper clean stuff at a dollar a round, but I am frugal and like the best balance of good and cheap that I can get.

Georgia arms reloads have served me well, in my Daewoo that's 1 in 12 I can pop 12oz coke cans at 100 yards and they are about 5 wide across the top of the front iron sight at 100 yards.

I have an indoor 100 and an outdoor 200 not to far, but the only real long range club is a 50 mile ride and I am not a member right now, so for 200 yards and under about any decent round above 3000 fps will make the mark.

If I had the funds to spare I would get a barrette 50 asap and join that range with the 800 yard lanes.

I've been trying to scrounge up a GAU-12 or GAU-22 25mm Barrel.

I may have to turn down a Bushmaster 25mm Barrel.

I want an even bigger version of the Anzio 20mm

Mark Romeo (Owner of Anzio) owes me a favor for shipping him a 30mm GAU-8 barrel a few years back.

20MM Take-Down Rifle - Anzio Ironworks

I have had them in my list, what about smooth bore cannons, there's no limit on those is there?
I know there are bowling ball shooters and old cannons made before 100 and something years ago, but re pops are an open area depending on your home state are they not?

I wonder if I can legally build a 90mm smooth bore cannon to fire sabot hand made ammo, I would want to get the velocity up, what about breach loading?

My extended family wants to get some acreage, a cannon would be great fun but expensive to shoot, I would like to make my own everything except powder.

This 38mm home built civil war replica is not mine, and it sounds like that load was subsonic, but it appears to be legal to build non-rifled over 50 cal, rifles, shotguns and cannons, I believe we have to stay 50 cal and under for pistols but I have seen bigger ones and bigger BP pistols that are rifled.

However smooth bores such as shotguns and cannons I do not know of a limit, however there may be a breach loading or pre cased cartridge ammo size limit, I will make certain before I build anything, I'm not sure about the limits and things get changed without us knowing sometimes. There's a reason we don't have 12 gauge pistols, because I would shoot one, no problem.

One time years ago I had one that I was running through the magazine as fast as I could pump and fire hitting the target, I mean just obliterating the target and I kept creeping closer to my face as I was focused on hitting the target, well on that last shot I let the recoil drive the grip in my hand back and hit myself on my upper lip.

I tried to play it off like I didn't just do that until the blood started dripping down from my lip, it was a very minor lip cut that needed no treatment.

Some might say that was bad for me to let that happen, but I did what was important, I kept control of the weapon and every shot I fired was on target, and that is job # 1, but I learned not to let it creep back when shooting fast, I'm sure I am not the first to learn that.

I can fire slugs and buckshot with pistol grip shotguns, but some frail persons should not try it, or start with a light bird loads and work your way up.

It's really not that big of a deal, a proper stance and a firm grip and the worst you get is a sore hand if you shoot a lot in a day.

This Mossberg I just picked up came with a nice rubbery Hogue grip factory installed, it soaks up the sharpness of the recoil and the finger groves help the shooter keep a solid grip.

A 3.5" 12ga slug round is a nice way to knock your teeth out using a pistol grip. Seen this happen once at a range here on Vancouver Island.

I find a good technique with a pistol grip shotgun is to grip it like your trying to pull it apart by the pump and grip.

This is a 2 3/4 and 3 chamber and I am a pretty big boy, I have no problem shooting these, I learned my lesson about outrunning myself long ago.

@ AaronT: Yes, push forward on the pump sleeve and slightly back on the grip otherwise you will half cycle on the recoil and get a lot of barrel rise, I can shoot these one handed but it makes my wrist sore if I do it too much, I will try to make a short video next time I go to the range.

These semi auto 12ga pistols are digital mock ups, but I would love to see them on the market, calling it a 2 handed weapon would be wrong as the AK and AR pistols are not considered 2 handed unless they have a vertical forward grip.
It must be the 50 cal limit on pistols? But it would be smooth bore, just like the back aces " firearm " this should be producible, I don't even care about the sig brace.

By that analogy we should frequenty see model T fords on the road all the time. They were good cars and the fundamental way a car works has not changed since they were introduced.

Apparently it doesnt really work that way, i've never seen anyone drive a vehicle from that era as a practical method of getting around.

As for gun designs: you could wonder where the revolver went. The obvious downside is slow reloading and a limitied amount of ammo of 6 rounds. But the upside of the compact form factor (and lack of casings flying around) is still there and 6 rounds are probably enough for self defence. I know they are still being produced, but you rarely see them these days.

Legislation is just shitty though, especially in europe. No firearms allowed for civilians unless you get a special permit that basically allows police to raid your house at any time in order to inspect you are keeping it in a safe.

Build an air pressure powered cannon that fires bowling balls at mach 1? Not a problem at all, legal to own and operate as long as those bowling balls don't end up on land you do not own.

New York should also really be split in two. The NYC metro area, which encompasses pretty much where I am in NJ, think 20 square mile radios from NYC, is completely different from south jersey, and even more so than rural upstate new york.

Suppose Trump winning is definitely a plus for gun rights. Nor is a republican held congress likely to pass any kind of gun control measures. That's definitely an area where I was in complete opposition to even Sanders, who at least said that the gun control issue is a mental health issue.

Yes and no. Yes, guns basically do the same thing they've done for over 100 years - use explosives to hurl a heavy metal projectile through a barrel that can be precisely aimed to transfer the energy of the explosion into the flesh of the target. But, there have been some really interesting guns and gun related innovations recently. Here are some things to consider:

1. Suppressor designs have really improved; smaller, lighter, easier to service, durable and more effective.
2. The new Binary trigger systems that fire on pull and release of trigger can simulate burst and full-auto rate of fire.
3. An obvious one - polymers used to lighten up the weigh of guns and make them more weather resistant is innovative.
4. AR-15 "legos for men" - when was there ever a single platform that could be so customized and personalized?
5. Micro 9mm handguns - powerful 6&7 shot pocket pistols the size and weight of old .25acp mouse guns now shoot 9mm+P.
6. Bullpup 5.56 and .308 high-power carbines that aren't much larger or heavier than the old UZI.
7. Drum Magazines that hardly weigh more than an ordinary magazine and have the same height profile as an ordinary magazine. Which is really going to be a more effective weapon - A 1918 Browning full-auto 30-06 BAR that holds 20 rounds? Or a 2017 AR-15 with a Binary trigger and a 50 or 100rnd drum?
8. Even the revolver has advanced - S&W's 8-shot .357 that takes moon clips has capacity comparable to a 1911 and can be reloaded almost as fast!

Then again, would a WW-1 era handgun be -that much- less effective for self defense compared to one that rolled off a factory line this year?

It's just a technology that is pretty mature, the most significant improvements in the last 100 years probably took place during WW-2.

One thing that could be a game changer is the use of things like 3D printers to fabricate firearms. There are already some designs out there, and while not particularly good, you could shoot and kill someone with them if you had the ammo.

Given improvements in affordable CNC machines for metal parts and methods of sharing designs, i don't think it's impossible to 'download and print' an entire machine gun using 3D printing for the plastic and CNC for the metal parts in the coming years. This would be problematic for gun control as it is hard to police the sale of metal stock that is usually used for perfectly legitimate applications.

TRUMP SUPPORTS NATIONAL CONCEALED CARRY.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump -- who said he has a concealed carry permit -- called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide. In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a "total failure."

"Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own," Trump wrote.

It's not a departure from what he's said on the trail this year, though it does mark a shift from a position he took in his 2000 book "The America We Deserve," where Trump stated that he generally opposes gun control but that he supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to get a gun.

"Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like 'assault weapons', 'military-style weapons' and 'high capacity magazines' to confuse people," Trump wrote Friday. "What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans."

I wonder how he will handle this state by state. Cali and NY will present major issues. Don't states decide this kind of policy? This could be a constitutional mess. I just dont want this to turn into another executive order deal. This leaves it wide open for the next President in 4 or 8 years.
