ITAR is useless when our secretary of state leaves the door to our electronic blueprints open, as I understand it virtually all our technology has been stolen and improved upon in many cases.

What type of sensors would those be?

I can imagine why they would want to limit availability of those to entities outside the country or even government just because they could be used to devise a way to avoid detection and such.

There are pro's and cons to such regulations. In the past we had fairly idiotic things with bans on exporting encryption software which was not practially viable nor effective as equally effective or better encryption was developed in europe.

The ones I specifically dealt with were vibration sensors, that could be placed underground, or on fences. Depending on vibrations detected CPB (customs and border protection) would be notified. Different variations on that same theme. I can't really say more than that, but use your imagination, and you probably will not be too far off. I highly doubt they worked half as well as sold.

I did some calculations.

A 1 sec burst from a 7 watt laser beam is equivalent to a .177 cal 7.3gn pellet travelling at 600fps.

Here is an air pellet pistol of that power.

Crosman P1377

You'd need 28 Watts to reach the power of a 22 CB

I think I have a way to make single beam of 26 watts, (2x 44s @ 7w + 2x 06Es @ 6w) I think it could do bursts as high as 28 Watts.

But what to use as a host...

Use star trek phaser toy guts so it makes a beam noise...

I am thinking much the same, but won't we need a couple of wave plates, or you thinking to combine as a +
I saw the new dicro that will combine 450 and 462

I was planning on using wave plates, I was also thinking cylindrical lenses could be added after the Dichro. (I giggle a bit at the idea of burning little +'s in everything)

I suppose you could knife edge 4-5 of these assemblies into a "square" beam.

That would be over 100 Watts of visible light.

Do you know what type of waveplate is needed to avoid the cross configuration, I happen to have 2xNUBM44's and 2xNDBM07E's for the purpose of combining.

I want to correct the fast axis of each diode, (2 x 450nm NUBM44's) first then combine with a WP and PBS, I thought a mirror setup in 465nm could be combined at a 450nm/465nm dicro for a total of 4 beams, but the waste heat even if that 450/465 dicro would work like that is going to be a big issue.

Maybe just combining a pair to start, I hear OPT has some square wave plates, I have new 44's and drivers as well as several 6X cyl pairs but I am working on a PBS and WP with low loss, and powering just a pair of NUBM44's will occupy 3 x 26650 IMR's.

I love the idea of 4 diodes but just my triple 7875 got hot in 2.5 minutes and I mean HOT, that was in a pretty big heat sink too.

This is a 2.5 by 2 inch round aluminum sink with just 3 x 7875's at 2.4amps each and I was amazed hot fast it got really hot.

I'm right with you for the fast axis correction.

Sounds like you have long duration in mind.

I'd build the 2x 44 section of the array first, then add the 06E components. I think the trick would be to build the 2x 44 array on the "bottom" plate then build the 06E array on the "top" plate then line up both assemblies with the Blue Blue Dichro and glue the plates together.

This gives me a 26 Watt diode array.

From there I will design the heat sinking/adapter to hold the array in place in the host (whatever that happens to be) as well as give a heat reservoir for the diodes and optics.

I'm likely to sink the drivers remotely rather than attach them to the array sink, however that depends on the host.

In the end what I get is what I get, I'm not worried about getting minutes of run time, for what I have in mind even 1 sec bursts (per trigger pull...) would do what I want.

Using 2 stacks of 3 18650s ea would fit in a tube not much bigger than a 2D maglite handle. The array/sink could be built as small as the Belphegors head.

20+ Watt handhelds...

This project is a ways down the pipeline. I'm planning a Phaser Build first.

Next would be to build the 44 section of the array.

Also here is the price list I got from the MFR of the Blue/Blue Dichro

I tell you if it wasn't for that money issue I would build all kinds of fun stuff.

BTW do you know if there is a good quality Chinese copy of the EOTech holo sight yet?
I have 2 and the price has been coming down, they are right at 399 right now, and I do want quality, but there ought to be a quality analog for a lot less.

Has anyone used any of these that are good and stay on mark?
I want some for 556 builds.

I'm tempted to try this:
New TruGlo TG8380BN Open Red Dot Sight 2 Color Multi Reticle Holosight 788130014325 | eBay
IMHO the only reason to buy a China copy of a gun accessory is so you can have a mockup to help you decide if you want to spend the $, or the China copy is something injection molded (no value effected components) and it won't matter.

I have owned many Chinese copys of proper optics, over time they have all been replaced with the real deal as they break, were given away, or just tossed in the trash.

I prefer an Aimpoint CompM2 to the EoTech, I prefer the Elcan SpecterDr to the CompM2. All of them are very good, impeccable companies and have great warranties. (Basically if you buy one once, you have one for life as many replacements as it takes)

Of course if it is a range toy and not intended for real work at any time then it doesn't matter.

Everything "TrueGlow" that I have seen or owned has been complete garbage, won't adjust zero, if adjusted won't hold/isn't repeatable, or it won't even turn on.

I have had the following holo site on my IZH-61 pellet gun for a few months, it has held up well so far. It has all the features of the optic you selected and a bit more. There are many "brands" of this model but they are all identical.

Yes I know better, I'm just a dam cheapskate, but sometimes you can find a gem, I would test the heck out of anything not in the range toy lineup, but the Chinese stuff is getting better and better all the time, I would like a real battery and a 1 MOA dot.

LOL yea, that Elcan SpecterDr is going to be outside my budget.

I'm right with you on the stuff from China getting better and better.

However their optics are targeting the airsoft market and not actual firearms.

As far as I know NO Chinese knockoffs are tested on actual firearms for durability.

The only "smart" way to get a deal on China optics is find a Branded product that is simply manufactured in China. Track down the MFR and buy the product from the China factory before it gets branded.

Otherwise IMHO your just rolling the dice.

Another way is to search Amazon for well rated cheap optics and brows reviews looking for reviewers that used actual firearms.

I normally copy/past my Amazon finds into ebay to get them even cheaper.
