I thought about posting this in the fail thread, but decided it's too much of a fail to put there.

The government is meant to be of the people, by the people, and for the people.

People do not belong to the government. The government though does belong to the people.

Well, contradiction of the title and content aside, do we belong to LPF, or does LPF belong to us? Both? Neither? Is there a tangible distinction between the two? Does it really matter to begin with?

Maybe since the government is made of the people, we belong to it for solely that reason. If someone said "I belong to LPF," is he saying LPF controls his thoughts and actions? Probably not. I would read it as synonymous with "I am a member of LPF."

I really don't think he was saying anything like "You must do as the Government commands, for you are its slave." But that's another thing that sucks about politics. This simple statement can mean two entirely different things depending on which side you're on.

That's ridiculous LPF is not one day going to kick your door down... The Gov. the way it's going cannot say the same.

It really just left me a tad puzzled, and very annoyed. What's even more incredible, is it's the reality of where our government is headed. Suppose I shouldn't say "our" though. :undecided:

The title was meant to simply label the video. The later statement is of course my own take on what is accurate.

The distinction to me I suppose is in who makes the statement. See in your LPF example, the statement is coming from you, about belonging to LPF, it does not come from LPF. It's one thing to say, "I belong to LPF." for you, it is entirely another for c0ld to come along and say "Cypragon belongs to LPF." in a possessive manner.

Having the DNC, half of our government, and more, say that You/We the people belong to IT, is very uncomfortable to me. Putting it mildly.

While we are certainly not slaves to the government yet, we are definitely at that point where as you put it "You must do as the Government commands." If you don't believe me... just fly anywhere in the US. You might be asked to freeze on command while passing through security. Reasonable right? Except the command is only given to gauge your compliance, not because you maybe be a danger to others, or be putting yourself in danger.

I suppose my paranoia stems from the lack of reciprocity I see in the actions of the people with regards to the government, versus the actions of the government toward the people.

The devil is always in the semantics of the details . . .

It always is.

I don't think it's fair to lump all Government in with the TSA. You don't hate firefighters or public school teachers, do you?

Yes yes, big brother is out to get you and we are all doomed. :tired:

Meh, I don't see it that way. Probably because I know LPF doesn't literally own me. This whole thread reminds me of

So you think I'm funny? Well do yah? :na: :eg:

Nah, I certainly don't hate teachers, or firemen. Many cops, and all branches of the alphabet soup, that's another story.

The abuses of the TSA are simply the most visible, and recent. Bottom line is, as a citizen, these agencies have virtually no responsibility to you, or leave you with recourse to challenge them. Certainly not via your constitutional rights.

No... he's had years to perfect the science of GIFology... I'm only now catching up with some funny pictures.

Hmm, speaking of cops, came across this gem the other day;
