Are you sure it is from Gmail?

A few months ago I got some mails requesting that I log onto paypal to verify something or other.
Hovering my mouse over the included link showed an address that did not look the least like paypal. :D

That's nasty! I'm wondering what kind of software n00bs are maintaining their code. When you look at how GXXGLE has changed their layout for searches with the sidebar(Greasemonkey deactivated for me) and how the image search has the url of the image omitted(Unless you use my fix), I can understand what happened to gmail.

NEVER... NEVER... EVER click on a link to PayPal in an E-Mail....
It is a dead giveaway to a Phishing expedition...

PayPal specifically states that they will never send an E-Mail with a link
to their site...

BTW... reporting that E-Mail to PayPal is also a good idea..

Guess I should have clarified the point there.
And no I did not use the link, and I did report one of them to paypal.

First Rule of thumb... Never respond to any email directly requesting personal or account information of any kind unless you are expecting it. These are almost always phishing emails.

If you are concerned about the message in the email DO NOT click on any links provided in the email, open up a browser and manually go to the website in question, find the contact information and ask them about the email and if it is legit. Using any link provided within the email completely defeats the purpose of checking because they could send you a link that contains any data they wish.

This exact same thing happened to me little over a month ago, nothing can be done to prevent it. I hope google starts fixing security holes faster. You most likely were hacked using the new mobile interface since thats how most everyone was hacked over the past 2 months. Don't forget to
change your password to any web site that might be linked to your email..for example..once my gmail was hacked they used it to reset and change my facebook password then spammed everyone on my list. Since i don't ever use fb i didn't know for some time it had been hacked even though i already had found out my gmail was hacked. hope this helps clear up what happened.

I think the punishment for hackers and virus designers should be slow and painful, maybe taking a hammer and busting up their fingers.... one bone at a time :eg:
(Okay my daydreaming is over, I guess jail time would work too)

Hackers are useful. Not a bad thing to be, at all. Description of "hacker":
Code:
1: one that hacks
2: a person who is inexperienced or unskilled at a particular activity <a tennis hacker>
3: an expert at programming and solving problems with a computer
4: a person who illegally gains access to and sometimes tampers with information in a computer system

Ignore 2. 3 would be the best description of a hacker in computer terms. 4 is how you described it, but it is a mix of 3 and a "thieve"; Exchange/Give a few. Simply being a hacker can mean to be able to solve a problem in way not really "appropriate". But, of course, "inappropriate" does not always mean something "bad" like a thieves description.

not all hackers are bad.
just when they target me.
But thanks to hackers we have security. they find a hole and then it gets patched.
The good/ great hackers get paid a ton to find holes...
