maybe the link changed, but when I click it, it takes me to an image labeled "Magnetron_section_transverse_to_axis.JPG"

So, my vote is that it is a section of a Magnetron transverse to the axis of rotation. :eg:

who thinks Speedy should post up some herky parts for us to guess the function? :D

Well, it does contain conductive material, but that's not it's primary purpose , so I'd have to say no.

a conveyor or auger of sorts?

it's probably made of polycarbonate or similar plastic.
