No, not a ion engine.

As help ..... i can say that it's a very unusual "light source" (and that ped need a lot of space, for store it, if he want one ..... i'm saying too much :p :D)

A source of electromagnetic radiation produced by a synchrotron?

piferal wins (but also Trevor was close enough) ..... it's a synchrotron light source, where the light is generated from a free electron laser beam. :beer:

My first thought was "melting point", idk why. But i guess (judging by the presence of a dial on the extremity facing us) pressure? :thinking:
