I recently sent out a request for a sample of a part from Lumex.com a led and LCD company.. Much to my surprise when i got home I had a box that held to 405 nm uv diodes. I have sent out a few requests here and there and am batting about 75 percent as far as getting the few samples that I have requested..I have gotten some resistors a few ic chips a couple caps and odds and ends.. I have two of these diodes and now trying to figure a use for them

Simple --- Build a laser and give
us a report, diode Pn and pix.
You received to (two?) diodes - What are they?

they are a 405nm 200 mw uv diode i am assuming i will need a driver to power these guys and now just got to find one

The TheDukeAnumber1 is right , not UV, but all most. 405nm is just on the edge of UV.
Still a very cool wavelenght.

You do not need a driver for a LED, a resistor will work fine if you are using 12 volts as the supply a 200-300 ohm resistor is all you will need.

From Nichia

 "From Nichia", yea right! Trying to get a diode from nichia is like trying to get the president of the united states to cut off his finger and give it to you. Not going to happen, ever! :p

vortish, way cool. These are blue/ violet laser diodes and have some UV capabilities as well. They run about 6 volts forward voltage and a 200mW could probably be driven to at least 300mW with the right heat sinking. Way to go, buddy. I should start trying that out as well.

I forgot to put in the title that these are 405nm uv led diodes.. not ld.. that is what the manufactures website called them.. good for bacterial finding, money counterfeiting scanning that kind of stuff. I wish they were 405nm ld but these are LED uv if you look and op you will see the part number look it up

oops. My mistake. I hadn't thought about LEDs, so I just assumed they were laser diodes. Never mind.

I thought i share these because i know many of our builders/members like building things with LED's as well
