Focusing sold lasers to a point for safety?

So, I was thinking about what most people really want arctics for, and the answer is simple: burning things. Now, we can focus our lasers down to a point if we want to but the arctic is fixed-focused to infinity (or as close as wicked cares to get). However, most consumers don't want that AND this allows for eye injury at large distances. What if wicked fixed-focused the laser to a point, say, 2 meters from the laser? This way people can do all the burning they want, and the chance of an eye injury would drop significantly the farther you got from the laser-so they couldn't injure anyone who wasn't willingly within range of the laser. On top of that, I think focused at 2m is plenty for pointing and stargazing, in fact it would make the inevitable pointing a lot safer. And NO WAY you're gonna get close enough with an arctic to blind a pilot if it's focused like this. This could be applied to a lot of sold lasers as a safety precaution to the general public. What do you think?

Well sounds better focused to infinity as far as longer range safety. With a 2m fixed focus it would be a bit more of a fire hazard when just playing around pointing at things in a room. Of course its always going to be a hazard one way or another.
IMO its certainly worth it to prevent longer range injury (pilots in particular).
Now how do we force WL to comply?

(I don't condone "playing around" with 1W but you know they are going to do it.)

right, it's going to be a bigger danger short range but I figure it's better that the person who bought and is responsible for the laser gets injured than some innocent bystander a hundred meters away.

I think people wouldn't want it if its being limited in that kind of way...

I bet they will start to sell a focusable lens once they have started to ship and people receive them. Wicked Lasers is all about burning power, they know the market for it, but due to the press at the moment I bet they are waiting for it all to cool down.

Even better might be adjustable focus but to a max of 2m, no infinity. New FDA requirement for handhelds?
If we want full adjustable focus either modify or go DIY.

That sounds good to me haloblu... and people won't see it as a "limitation" for the most part IMO, just as "more burning power!"

Not to be an ass, but there are so many threads/posts/spam on the Arctic in the main forum, why post this here in the Other section?

I really cant wait till they ship these things so people can talk about actual facts about the laser. All this empty banter is drilling a hole in my head. Well...another one anyway.

it doesn't apply to just the arctic, really every cheaply available laser. That's why I put it here.

Hell No! I got bored with burning things with my lasers after a few months. When(if) I ever get my arctic I might light a few things quick for the fun of it and make some videos, but the main thing for me is star pointing and general outside/long ranged pointing use to look at the pretty blue beam and impress people in general.

I could see this being an optional mod, but requiring it would be pure stupidity and people would surely just find a way to refocus the laser anyway.

Its still laser a related thread in the Other section. Doesn't belong here. People may see this and start posting here too.
