Default flashlight/edc thread

Hey,
What flashlights does everyone here own? I have a fenix LD20, and I EDC a county comm maratac AAA. I'm not gonna post any of my cheap wal-mart lights with a bunch of 5mm leds or whatever, those hardly count in my mind. I figure if everyone here owns lasers, they might own a few flashlights.

Also feel free to post your EDC, I feel the two might be related.
On top of the maratac, I EDC my watch, phone, leatherman squirt, peanut lighter, DX mini universal remote, a single-handed folding knife, a small letter knife, my wallet, and some matches. Everything is kept either in the wallet or on a keychain besides the phone and larger knife.

UV flashlight? Can you actually light up anything non-fluorescent with it? It could sure be fun to have!

I've got two P7-based lights from DX. one 1x18650 and one 2x18650 (significantly brighter). Also a 40-LED UV light that draws a total of ~5V*20mA*40=4W

Oh, and also a nice little cree 1W that takes one AA.

My friend just gave me a Gerber rx350 with a burned out bulb... I can stick a 5mm LED in the bulb holes, but it gives me like half a lumen... is this what happens when an LED "burns out"? I didn't use a resistor or anything, and it kind of seems like some LEDs flash really bright when I first put them in then go dim. I'll try it with a 33 ohm resistor later on.

3-from a CR123. I'm using a red LED, so I figure a Vf of 2V. This means 1v/.03A = 33.33Ω. I think I have these equations right.... I might go higher so I can use lithium rechargeables.

Yeah that is correct. You're lucky not having it blow up, because it smells really bad.

hmm.... wtf. I might have to measure internal resistance of the light. Maybe it has a built in resistor... that might help explain the dim LEDs..... But do LEDs go dim if you overdrive them? If so, I've wasted like 5 LEDs. I also have a bunch of bright UV leds, but they like at least 5 volts.

will

EDIT:no internal resistance, IDKWTF is wrong. I'm gonna try and find an alternate head so I can install a (you guessed it) laser.

UV (black light) is very useful identifying traces of rodents. Their urine and feces glow. People have used them for years in warehouses, etc. to check for evidence of mice and rats.

Here in the southwest, they're used to find scorpions hiding, which also glow under UV.

They can get allot brighter, but only if you overdrive them to some point, then they will get dim and burn out within seconds. 1V overdrive is by FAR too much.

haha, Ive been having fun over at EDC forums and it's (I just realized that I use it's as a contraction of it has, not just it is. Mind=blow) inspired me to carry a bunch of crap in my pockets I've actually managed to use every single thing in the last week.

sweet! It reminds me of the MiNi 123, it's a ridiculously small CR or RCR123 light that puts out somewhere above 189 OTF lumens in a ridiculously small package.

You need a chemical to react with the proteins first.^

I took my DX uv light to a hotel with me once. I was able to see some stains on the sheets, just barely though.

Is a chemical required for the lower wavelength uv lights? (like ~380nm or below) I've seen a few for sale that are under $120 but have been reluctant to buy one yet.

My EDC?

Springfield Armory XD-9 service model, carried in a SERPA CQC Level II retension holster, w/ an extra Springfield Armory XD mag (either 10- or 16 rounds), for a total of 21 - 27 rounds of 147gr JHP personal defense ammunition... also a StreamLight Scorpion flashlight and a Spyderco Native folding knife.

It might seem like a lot (or overkill) to some to carry stuff like that, but doing so saved my life one day (vs. two armed robbers).

This thread reminds me that I need to make another ballistic nylon combo carrying case for my flashlight and spare mag....

^overkill? Naw. The moment I turn 21 I'm getting my ccw (didn't anyone think that being able to drink and carry on the same day is a bad idea?), and I'll start practicing with a handgun when I turn 18. Although I sometimes think a spare mag is overkill. I'd be more than happy with 6+1 rounds in a PF9 or similar pocket carry pistol. I already carry a S&W folder. (my school is pretty well-armed for a high school )

I confirm that said previously, however sometimes it is possible to see something on a very smooth and uniform surface without reagents. I use this bactericidal mini-bulb
