Looking at it from an Administrator's perspective... The Forum
basically pays for itself by the sheer number of members here.

Internet advertisers will invest in a banner add if the Forum is
popular and is visited by a lot of people.

If I had to choose between going to a club that has a fight
break out every 5 minutes or a club that I could go and
peacefully enjoy my brew and converse with my buddies...

I would choose to relax without the need to perhaps protect
myself... as would any new club goer...

I can easily see the logic in why the Admin/Owner of this
Forum does not condone fighting on the Forum and the
Mods are here to uphold his wishes...

@Things....
Sorry.... I must be sleeping at the switch.... What were you
referring to with the Pangolin analogy....
You can PM me if you prefer...

I haven't seen any problems with Driver or Laser or Laser
parts sellers...

Photonlexicon is a GREAT example of this, Pangolin vs everything else. It's already starting to happen here, and it needs to stop.

How do you send an anonymous PM?

You cant. I dont want to expose the sender of the PM in fear the drama will suck him in too.

Honestly this is the third round of people (that I know of) that have been trying to get me secretly banned since I started here. Its far from anything new. Every time there is an altercation that involves me they all jump on the ban wagon to get me kicked for good. As evident of the ridiculous circus show this has evolved into. I mean 7 bannings, huge arguments in PM, the Vets section, and the open forum, closed threads, Mod trolling, negative reps, backstabbing, and lying. All over a simple disagreement over 6 moths ago about some dumb wire. And its still grinding on. There is only one person who is keeping this alive, and its not me.

@Things. I dont think it matters if they have a business or not. The forum is doing them a favor by letting them make money here. If anything I think they should be held to an even higher standard of conduct. If they want to be business men, they should act like it. You dont slap the faces of the people that put money in your pocket. That's just common sense.

Sorry daguin, shouldn't reported it when I found it. Don't know what I was thinking. Last night made night 8 of 9 for working 6pm-6am. Kinda in a zombie mode right now.

I'm just going to side-topic a little because this really caught my attention and is worth pointing out. While I understand racial slurs should not be tolerated along with other characteristics one can't change (height, race, etc.), what's the problem with religious ridicule? It's an ideology, just like political affliation, or outlook on life, and NOT a natural characteristic.

When we make fun of one's political affiliation it's fine, but when it's religion, it's not? Excuse me, but religion has no "special rights" here. You are NOT born with a religion, you CHOOSE your religion, just as you CHOOSE your political affiliation.

It really bothered me some years back, when the Muslim community went nuts over the NY Times' ridicule of Allah in some cartoon drawing. Furthermore, it disgusts me that we are allowed to label our kids "Christian", "Muslim", etc. before they even have a chance to decide for themselves. What's so special about religion that they are allowed to label small children Catholic, Protestant or Muslim? Nobody would categorize children by the political party their parents support, call them Tory or Democrat children. We agree they're too young to know where they stand on questions of politics. So why is not the same for questions of the cosmos and humanity's place in it? I digress but you see my point, I would be absolutely disgusted if someone gets banned for religious ridicule, that's why I brought it up. And if such a thing would ever happen, then political ridicule should also be banned, as well as countless other ideologies of humanity.

/rant ended

The reason we try to leave race, religion, gender or sexual orientation alone is because?
One this is a laser forum and they do not belong here, especially if used to insult or troll a fellow LPF member.

And number two.
Look at how upset it made you.
You had to rant about how ones individual religion preferences deserve no respect or protection. That if a LPF member decides to troll another member. He can do so by insulting or ridiculing that persons religion.
Again look at how upset it made you? That is why it is left alone and not allowed here at LPF. In fact I think it already is a rule in the LPF terms or use agrement.

It's usually dealt with pretty swiftly by the admin, though start a thread on PL asking which is the best DAC and you'll see what I mean ;)

I've been reluctant to use these tools I have. But they tell me I should.

Plus rep to the first person that tells me where it's from.

People dont HAVE to follow the drama.

There is a lot more to this forum than some minor drama.

Like any other forum is different? I read PL sometimes, and they have the same drama we have, sometimes more. Any gathering with a male majority is going to have pissing contests, and arguments. Its the nature of the beast.

What's funny, to me anyway, is I tone down my act to about 20% when I'm on here. My girlfriends has less hurt feeling than most here, and she gets the full brunt. This is no exaggeration. I am truly amazed how easy it is to hurt people feelings here. 1. We are suppose to be men. 2. Its the freaking internet. Its all faceless text from someone you dont personally know. Why in the world would you let that make your life miserable? Its silly.

Other forums actually do exist with much less infighting.

Most people behave civilly when interacting with others, often without the need to tone it down. I believe this to be the norm rather than the exception.

Wow... your poor girlfriend/s.

If you focus on the drama you will see the drama as significant

There are MANY, MANY, MANY more non-drama posts than there are drama posts

However, humans see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- I did a quick count to show people how much it is THEM focusing on the drama
It is 11:00pm here so this is a pretty good count

There were new posts in 27 out of 33 boards today
How many of the boards did you visit today?

There were new posts in 82 different threads today
How many threads did you read through today?

I didn't count the number of individual posts, but many of those threads had more than one post in them today

Go back and check out how many drama posts you read today
What was the percentage of drama to non drama?
Are there really that many or are you just focusing on the drama?

Couldnt have said it better myself.

There is always the ignore feature. Can you guess why people dont use it? If people dont like me, and dont like my attitude, then why dont they ignore me, or the others causing drama?

Its because people love drama. Why do you think reality shows are so popular? Tons of people also love to throw their opinion around, me included. Thats another reason people dont use ignore.

Once again, if you dont want to read, or participate in the drama, click ignore. If you dont want to do that then dont complain, because its your own fault, not anyone elses.

It took my girlfriend a while to get used to my personality. But she also knows the real me, and she is good with it. A lot of people on here also know the real me, so they accept me for who I am.
