Hey guys i was wandering. I've seen a lot of videos of these people making flame throwers. Some complicated and some less (super soaker). Any way i was planning to make one of these "bad ass" flame throwers with my super soaker but i just have a question that stops me every time i think about building it.

People have been filling up there super soaker's with some sort of flammable liquid and putting like a candle in the front of the super soaker. My question is : Once you press the trigger the fluid comes out, hits the flame of the candle, fire comes through the front but wouldn't it ignite with the liquid leading back the the super soaker tank? Thus making the so called "flame thrower" explode

I'm guessing one of the people on these forums have tested this b4...

enlighten me please o_O

There is a good reason why the US government banned flame thrower use in war. The real ones blow up, D'uh!

How retarded do you have to be to pour a flammable liquid in a Supersoaker? I guess it depends if you actually do it or not. Keep us updated, I can always use a good laugh.

Bad idea I made one and accidentally lit my friend on fire then he ran into my house and lit it on fire then my cat ran out of my house on fire and lit the whole neighbor hood on fire. JK but really dont mess with it and if you do post your results like T_J said!

From my understanding of super Soakers is you use pressurized air to push
the water out the front. So you've got a flammable liquid in an oxygen rich
environment that is in a pressure vessel... What could possibly go wrong?
IMO a very bad idea.

Well the typical DIY flamethrower involving any old aerosol spray can with flammable contents works because they use co2 for the propellant and that doesn't burn. With no oxygen in the can the fire can't spread back in and blow it up. Idk how a super soaker flame thrower would work out. In theory if it shot a pure jet of fuel out it would work. If it had air mixed with the fuel heading out you'd be asking for trouble. Imo you should stick to the good old spray cans unless you really know what you're doing. A can of Ether used for starting cars works great and puts out a decent 4+foot jet of flame. I've used it to burn out wasp nests and spiderwebs before.

you could try simply shortcutting to the inevitable end result and simply douse yourself with the gasoline and light yourself on fire... You might actually survive for a white with a super soaker if you could pressurize it with inert gas. i.e. argon. but then when the flame gets hot enough to melt the plastic, and the stream stops spraying straight, the flame will start going everywhere. OR the plastic melting resulting in a catastrophic release of pressurized gasoline in any and all directions. If you simply pump it up with air, you know how the spray of a supersoaker gets a little ragged and spurts a little? that's air coming out with the water. When you hit that point with gasoline or something in, the flame starts to have the potential to travel up the hose and hit the tank. that's right. Kaboom. And you might be surprised to know, even when all the gas is gone, the fumes alone are still enough to blow up, with enough force to seriously injure or kill you. bottom line is, if the flame DOESN'T shoot up the hose before it is completely empty. it most certainly WILL after. then the tank will explode.

EDIT: this reply was more for anyone reading this thread and getting ideas then for you, the OP, as you have already commented on sticking with axe spray and a lighter.

The bottom line is trying will work for a short time, how long of a time depends on what you try. but the end result WILL be an epic fail, most likely resulting in either a life lived in a lot of pain, with 3rd degree burns, and need for expensive skin grafts. Not to mention looking like a freak with melted skin until the skin grafts, then just an uncomfortably weird looking shell of a person afterwards. Or simply death in flame and pain. However you are more likely to survive the experience in agony then die. After all, people have gotten more then good at keeping people alive in a state of agony and misery and calling it "saving lives."

I actually know someone, who is a shell of a man. I went to high school with him before the accident. He was driving a motorcycle. wiped out in some sort of accident, (nobody knows what happened to cause it) end result is he was lying unconscious in a pool of burning gas. He was rescued, is still alive, and severely disfigured. He fortunately suffered enough brain damage from the heat that he is unaware of just how fucked up he is anymore. However everyone around him has to suffer still, by the way of seeing what's left of him. I have met people with downs syndrome who have MUCH more mental capacity then he has left.. (he was fairly intelligent before the accident) He has holes in his face where the end of his nose should be. And despite a large number of skin grafts, he looks more like freddy kruegar then not. This is simply what you risk if you try a super soaker flamethrower. There are things much worse then death in this world.

BTW (and this is to all the pyro maniacs on this forum).
Some of those air cans that people use to clean dust off/out of stuff seem to have both oxygen and something flammable.. So there is a potential for those to explode.

Umm, isn't that just air in a can? Last time I checked, air doesn't burn :p

You need a propellant to push the air (or any product) out of the can...
and it is the propellant that can be flammable (VOC) in the old type
aerosol cans.

Aerosol Propellants

As to the Super Soaker flame thower idea...
you could save yourself a lot of building and testing time by dousing
yourself with a Flammable liquid and setting yourself on fire....

Ohhh... don't forget to Record it so some other clown on YouTube
can try it....:spank:

Uhm, for make a real decent flamethrower, you need AT LEAST:

a metal can for the flammable mix, that can be pressurized highly (at least 20 atmospheres, but better the double)

a double-body trigger valve with a safety return, and that incorporate absolutely affidable anti-reflow valves

metallic tubes

a can of high pressurized flammable gas (butane, propane or methane, but keep in mind that methane is self-explosive, if mixed with oxygen)

a high pressure mixer device, that mix the liquid part with the gas, like a jet propeller feeder

a decently long barrel (possibly with a flame repair, you never know when you can have a blowback)

some napalm (B-type napalm can be easily home-made :p)

a windshielded flame igniter (a flame always turned on)

an open space for test it, far away from houses, peoples, and cops :p

A LOT OF LUCK, possibly family-size format, better if 3 or 4 packs :p :D

I don't give details about this, sorry, cause it's too dangerous to make a working flamethrower in hobby/homemade modes, and too easy to make mistakes that you notice only when you test it (KABOOM) ..... also professional models built from specialized companies, sometimes fails and kills the user ..... if you want to just build something that throw a decent big flame, like a mega-lighter, it's a thing, but building a real flamethrower it's not a game .....

EDIT: by the way, pay attention to these "air cans" for dust items ..... most of them, now that CFC is banned, are made with propane, same as the "green gas" and "red gas" for BB pistols, and these gas mixes are extremely flammable .....

Times ago, someone tried to use CO2, but for some reasons now almost all these cans uses propane or propane mixed with other gases (for increase expansion speed), but always flammable / explosive .....

Yeah you guys are right... Super soaker was a bad idea. I guess if u are going to make a flame thrower u have to do it correctly and safely with out water guns.

This has got to be the dumbest idea since the solar powered flashlight. Seriously, stay away from flame throwers.

VERY BAD IDEA! Those computer dusters almost always contain some sort of fluorocarbon. If you burn it, hydrogen fluoride will be liberated and you will regret it.
