Hey guys,

I usually don't have the habit of creating Off-topic threads or participating much off them, but I guess I can make this one and save me a trip to some other forum(s).

In short, in this thread I'd like to discuss two types of games that I like to play, TPS and FPS.

I'll attach some screenshots of my playthrough of game in question last weekend to break up the monotone brick of text, so uhh... pictures unrelated. Kinda sort of.

First I wanted to ask you, those that played latest Black Ops, what's your take on it?
screen1.jpg

If you ask me, there could have been a lot more work done on it... get it up to mirror-polish. This way it's kind of uh... with raw spots.

First of all I play on PC and if I understood correctly, virtually ALL PC players experience severe performance issues on Black Ops, it's engine highly unoptimised. Takes enormus CPU power but GPU is left behind...

screen3.jpg

Guts also left behind here and there.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the game and everything, it was really badass, but I really like Modern Warfare 2 better... :undecided:

Graphics experience in Call of Duty Black ops was good and all ...
screen4.jpg

screen5.jpg

But honestly, I've seen better:
mass-effect-4.jpg

Mass Effect 1 and 2, respectively. Actual ingame graphics. I just shat bricks every time I finished those games. To give you an idea how much that is, I took this picture for you:

Bricks.jpg

Crappin' out bricks is not a bad thing comparison, is it?

So yeah, I'd also like to discuss Mass Effect with people here that play it :) Anybody, except Proto, I see what you did thar! (Just kiddin, Proto, you're obligated to tell people about your opinions of the game here).

Any of you guys into it? I find it exeptionally epic, and I think anybody who is not raping the Spacebar during cutscenes in games would.

So, feel free to talk about your favourite shooters, give reccomendations on games, rant on about why the Eff is new game made like this and that, and so on and so forth.

Don't post your gaming rig here though. Post your workdesk area thread already took care of that. :)

I played through Black Ops about a week ago. In my opinion it's the best call of duty campaign yet. I have to ask did anyone else experience stuttering or lag while playing? I have a decent system and I still got lot's of lag, even with the update.

Anyway here a list of my favorite FPS/TPS games, in no particular order:

Deus Ex
Battlefield 2 (not Bad Company 2!)
Team Fortress 2
Crysis
Call of Duty series
FarCry
Medal of Honor Allied Assault
Hitman Blood Money

I mentioned performance issue in the text.

Half of players have been able to resolve it (myself included) by alt-tabbing out of the game at the menu, then opening Task Manager then setting the Priority of BlackOps.exe to "High" (Not realtime!), then loading the level and playing .

I found it great fix so far.

Campaign was really good and storyline was pretty damn epic, I like the part when :
SPOILER WARNING!

...You figure out Reznov was actually dead for 5 years and all the time you're seeing visions implanted in you.

End spoiler.

I liked Crysis, graphics primarily, but what put me off there [I did finish both games, though ] is the AI and focus on the weapon systems.

Seriously, you shoot the guy 5 times in the torso and he's just looking around instead of diving for cover somewhere.

Guns are also as dangerous as BB guns, if you hit anything that's not an eye, enemies don't die until like 20 bullets.

Hitman was bloody awesome [literally :p ] I finished all 4 games.

Still, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 holds the champion title COD in my book. It's very playable on my low end laptop which is already 2 years old, while there's no magic that'll make Black Ops playable to decent degree.

I really liked all the attachments to weapons in Black Ops though. ACOG, Reflex, suppresor, 'nade launcher,
Fine touch was extended and dual mags but it's kind of a logic loophole,

You pack like 10 clips for each weapon you carry, you can put those AK [example] clips on any AK you pick up, not just the one that says particulary "Dual clip" , it's not like you reload the magazine, you put in a new one.

Anyhow, good game, but had much more potential.

You are absolutely right. That game is the best horror FPS ever. The only time I ever actually yelled out loud while playing a game was while I was playing the expansion Extraction Point.

Another scary FPS that is relatively new is Amnesia The Dark Descent. That game makes me not want to play it. In FEAR you at least have a gun to shoot at whatever it is coming at you (It always makes me feel better to unload a magazine into Alma even though it's totally useless). In Amnesia you have absolutely nothing that will cause harm to any of the enemy's, only darkness...

EDIT: Just curious, since I haven't completely beaten the first Mass Effect, I only got about 20% through the game, should I play through that one before I start number two or just dive right into the second one?

Apsolutely right you guys, totally forgot the FEAR. Epic at it's best.

You should complete the first one. After that, you can import the caracter with which you finished it into Mass Effect 2 and simply continue the story.

That's why it's so epic. It's like one big game.

Play the game in a manner you would act as if it were real life. Trust me, it gives you so much better feeling of gameplay and story that you won't soon forget :)

I'm a PC Gamer only (no console experience) so my gaming world is thus limited to the PC platform.

Playing Mass Effect 2 now / just finished MoH LE / Installed COD BO (but I have to update my graphics drivers; re: grenade concussion effects trashes the screen for the remainder of a gaming session) / have Fallout: Vegas, need extra HDD space :p

Excluding the above, my 10's & 9's PC GAMES list:

*** 10's ***
Batman Arkham Asylum
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (aka COD 4)
Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2
Crysis
Crysis: Warhead
Dead Space
Doom
Fallout 3
Far Cry
F.E.A.R.
Forsaken
GTA III
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Half-Life 2: Episode Two (Orange Box)

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Wing Commander V - Prophecy

---------

*** 9's ***
[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Ok, these were damned good, worth every cent I shelled out for them, but either they didn't move mountains (or had such bad bugs that I couldn't go with a 10, etc.)[/FONT]

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Conviction
Tron 2.0
Unreal

Mass Effect came in with an "8", barely missing a 9, but I felt there were areas that were too drawn out (like harvesting, etc.) making the game artifically longer than necessary. Mass Effect 2, however, appears to be a definite 9 and may even come in with a 10.

Wow Traveller, I'm impressed.

I see Serious Sam is wroth something somewhere else than its' home Country ... :p

I give both Mass Effects 10, the game appears to be artificially stretched out for longetivity, but I disagree, if any parts where shortened (the core of the game ones, not side tracked tasks and missions) the plot would lose on it's weight and would not be told right.

Hell, it could even be longer if you ask me.
I finished first Mass Effect 5 times now (3rd run, which was continued from 2nd [you can import the character to beginning of ME1 too, continue with all weapons from the beginning] was imported into ME2) , and Mass Effect 2 for 3rd time.

Every time I took my time and tried to get as much from the game as possible. Never did any speedruns because later I'm sorry for not helping out this and that dude... like in real life :)

Inifity ward can sure make good games, as soon as somebody else made COD7 , it didn't get all that good all of a sudden.

Also, I'm strickly a PC player too, I have never owned any console in my life due to certain monetary restrains. Also never had any highest end configurations too (in last 15 years, changed only THREE configurations) so I always pay attention how the game's engine is optimised, and how well does it run on variety of hardware , and ratio that against the graphics and physics given.

In total I played around 80% of titles you given here, and can agree that those are quite great games. Here and there I disagree though, Mass Effect 1 only 8 ?! :D

I see you haven't played Jedi Knight 3 Jedi academy. I finished that game 22 times. Honestly. Brix were shat. Tons of new lightsaber hilts and graphics changes were downloaded.

Man, I'd like to see your reviews of video games! If they are half of what your laser reviews are, you'll be getting a job at IGN.com or something like that in no time :)

My fav online fps is Bad Compnay 2, but my video card pouched out so I haven't payed that much lately (laptop can handle it), getting new pc soon. My fav single player fps is Borderlands. Borderlands has amazing replay value and there is over 14 gazzilion weapons, literally. Every weapon in the game has random generated stats and will never be the same.

Borderlands, hmm never heard of it.

Good game you say? Post some of your own screenshots while you're at it perhaps?

Mass Effect also has elements of Role Playing Game, but it's primarily a shooter.

Also, Borderlans is available on PC right?
