I'm tired of this worldwide bullshitt "phenomenon". I watched the trailer just to see why everyone's so excited about and I figured it must be the BDSM thing. If you are turned on by BDSM then go on the internets and watch PRONZ under the respective category. Srlsy what's with this movie?

On top of everything, todays Ebay deal ( WOW! des Tages - täglich ab 08:00 Uhr 6 neue Angebote) here in Germany has a black vibrator listed for only 19,99€
Seriously ebay? o____________O

I feel your pain. I was in the mall last night and walked past a clothing store with a huge sign on it that said "who knew grey was so naughty?".

Its like the Twilight hype all over again. All these (I assume that a large percent of the fans for this are female) women going crazy for a lackluster plot and just awful acting because it taps into some deep ***ual desire or something.

Well the largest problem I have with the movie is that it presents an abusive relationship as something "desirable".

Obviously, not good. It makes women want to seek this sort of thing out and not realize it's awful.

"Where's MY Christian Grey?"

Hopefully in jail.

Haven't read the book... don't plan to watch the movie, but I'd have to have been living under a rock to have avoided hearing and reading about it.

Plot: Woman is abused by domineering, but good looking rich creep, and loves it.

Women are turned on by it. Lots of them apparently, hence the popularity.

My problem:

How the f*ck does one take a girl (sorry I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!) who is into this, but also professes to be a feminist? :wtf:

I mean look, whatever turns people on, as long as it's not hurting anyone (unless consensual) I don't care... but the ridiculous message of this book/movie is women want to be abused? Is that it, or am I missing something?

Meanwhile from what I've seen online, true bdsm aficionados specifically dislike it because it is not what they are into, not what they advocate, and is a display of an abusive relationship.

Might have to bite the bullet, and read the book, or watch the movie... because I feel like either the world is just a bit more f*cked up, or I'm missing some big aspect of this piece of sh*t.

Edit: Did I say sh*t? Sorry I meant art. :p

From what I hear, it's badly written. I don't have a problem with BDSM in the slightest, but the author misunderstands and misrepresents what BDSM is all about. The BDSM community holds safety in the highest regard. You don't introduce drugs/alcohol to sway "consent", and you don't ignore safewords (using a safeword means consent was retracted). Much of what happens in the books is categorically rape.

Remember, kids: the difference between fetish and felony is checking with your partner beforehand.

Yet women flock to this shit , it makes twillight seem like a good movie , never thought I'd live to see this day. It's like how woman don''t respond to you on online dating sites unless you send them something weird like that line from Rush Hour 3. Then they all respond.

I mean it started as a Twilight fan fiction, it was always going to be bad.

My Ex, a feminist, an english major, refuses to read the books at all. According to her the writing is so awful it's insulting to the published community.
If you're into the S&M thing communication and safe words should be discussed first. Yes

Agree. I hope some young female viewers who like twilight don't make the transition into this ADULT themed content prematurely.

But then again I do have a conservative POV.

My wife has a degree in English Lit amongst others and says exactly the same - though she has read it through. She's not interested in seeing the film having suffered the book.

She did buy me this book though, which was quite amusing:

The movie is like a venus fly trap for men's d*cks. You are so tempted to watch it just to see some nipples and stuff. I wouldn't watch it for the plot. It's obvious that's not why they made the movie. Nudity sold, sells and will always sell.

If I wanted to see nipples, and pay for it I'll go to a strip club... thought it's fair to say those are even more of a venus fly trap.

"It's difficult to love a woman whose vagina is a gateway to the world of the dead...

Steve is madly in love with his eccentric girlfriend, Stacy. Unfortunately, their *** life has been suffering as of late, because Steve is worried about the odd noises that have been coming from Stacy's pubic region. She says that her vagina is haunted. She doesn't think it's that big of a deal. Steve, on the other hand, completely disagrees.

When a living corpse climbs out of her during an awkward night of ***, Stacy learns that her vagina is actually a doorway to another world. She persuades Steve to climb inside of her to explore this strange new place. But once inside, Steve finds it difficult to return... especially once he meets an oddly attractive woman named Fig, who lives within the lonely haunted world between Stacy's legs."

Probably still a better book
