That sucks. I would be so pissed off if the city accidentaly flattened my house. :yabbem:

Not me ..... i will simply flatten the municipal house, and all the houses of their employees, if they don't rebuild my house "as new" in a flash ..... (KABOOM :p :eg:)

This is what happens when you let politically correct nutcases make surveys. Yes this is a real question I was asked.

Green diode lasers blind instantly? WOW!
No wonder they are so much more expensive than DPSS lasers...
That was a multiple fail too, you win 4 interwebs for that one wannaburn ^_^

@Wannaburn, well I may be splitting hairs here (or just plainly suck at English) but "Green diode laser" is not an incorrect phrase is it? I mean after all, it does have a diode in it, and it's a green laser, so it's a green diode laser. Not green diode, but green laser with a diode. I see no other way of formulating the phrase more efficiently.

Only two fails I see in that movie is
1) Dude shines a laser on a plane and claims it's not illegal or weird
2) Every laser in every fukkin' movie MUST produce high-pitched flat whining sound when activated.

He also pointed a "laser capable of instantly blinding a pilot over a km away" directly at the dude's throat.
To instantly blind it would have to be upwards of a few watts right?
DPSS lasers are quite well collimated by design, at that range, a few watts would smoke the skin instantly wouldn't it? (fail 3)
The laser of that impressive magnitude was a pen style (fail 4)
He had truly impeccable aim to get the pilot right in the (both) eye without having it on and sweeping into the target (fail 5)
There was no reflection of the laser on the plane's window (fail 6)
I could come up with more but it is almost 5am and I am bagged.
It was humorous but idiots will believe that a 5mW pen laser, shone at a plane, will instantly cause it to crash (and possibly explode midair from the awesome power of said laser).
Silly directors....

AUTO XX, some of those points you're trying to make are invalid, nobody mentioned anything about power of that particular pen, and if you ask me the director has more clue about lasers than some members here.

All your points rest on fundations it's a few watts laser. Where did you get that idea?

Also, who said he didn't sweep it across somebody's eyes? Short flashback playing shows a dude blinding some pilots.

Window reflection? Where would that go?

You're not making a whole lot of sense here. Get some rest :)

Oh also, who said it was few kilometers, and also, who said pilots were instantly blinded? It just takes short flash into the dark-adapted eyes to ruin your nightvision and impair your flight skills.

Well, after all, who said that filmmakers (and CSI agents too, perhaps :p) must know what a real laser is or how it really work ? ..... or also just how English language work, if for that ? (biggest fails, imho :p :D)

I downloaded the full episode after viewing the clip... In it,
the laser is stated to be 5mW, the plane 1/4 mile up, and they
show cataracts forming over the pilots eyes!

No wonder the general pop has no clue...

Im going to split up the episode and lump the missing
parts into a YT vid.

The pilots eye glazes over with scar tissue from a 2 second
exposure, @ 1/4 mile from 5mW  Its just full of FAIL

I uploaded the scenes relating to the laser...
My thoughts are that possibly the show was trying
to get across the point that this type of behavior
is both dangerous and has consequences...

A little too far, but funny watching David Caruso
trying to act...

I got the idea that it had to be a few watts by the fact that the pilot was "blinded" in such a short exposure.

Shine a laser through a window, there is always a "dot" on it, even if you can't see the beam reflected ^_^

The distance was inferred by the flashback, I guess it was only 1/4 mile but even then, the divergence would make it (a little) safer.

I have been flashed in the eye with a <5mW green (a few years ago), it was at night and my night vision came back after a few seconds.

Wow, I was really tired last night, I got a solid 9 hours of sleep.
Don't look too deep into my late night posts, you will be debating with an idiot :D

*edit* I like the pilot's reaction to the news that he has corneal scarring, I know a few pilots and they would do a damn backflip if they heard that.

The only torrent I could find for this with a decent amount of 'seeders'
was a Swedish sub version..

Cant remove them as they are edited into the video..

On a positive note, you can learn how to say 'this is a green diode laser'
in Swedish
