There is a difference between stormtroopers and clone troopers... Clone troopers, episodes II, and III were specifically bred for nothing else except blind obedience, and to fight. At least the vast majority of them, although there were subsets with different genetic traits for permit for special purpose units. There are several books that explore this in the expanded universe, and how many clones, those with higher reasoning not bred out of them, grew disillusioned with the empire.

StormTroopers are actually regular soldiers though, who applied to be in the army, and undergo rigorous training. Storm Troopers were needed to replace clone troopers due to the latter's accelerated aging, and the fact that due to Fett's death, and destruction of the cloning facilities and the loss of technology, no more could be made.

Either way though, with either stormtroopers or clone troopers, they were the "elite" fighting force. You just can't tell from how they don't ever hit a damn thing with their blasters

Yup, he was a stormtrooper. Many of those that ended up in the rebellion were ex imperials.

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that the new starwars movies don't screw with the canon established too much. Although I wouldn't blame them for some changes, like maybe making Luke less whiney, and melancholy, post ROJ. I mean yes, your dad was Vader, but you never really knew the guy, so get the hell over it already

I doubt I'll see too many red shirt girls there, but I'll be sure to work that bit into the conversation. Create a proper sense of urgency for them :shhh:

Oh crap. I really really hope not.

I mean that is how things go on in the expanded universe, but there is a HUGE number of backstories leading up to this, and honestly, that story arc is not great.

A movie that is set so far into the future would also completely gloss over the fact that even post ROJ there was still a huge freaking empire out there, that still dwarfed the rebellion.

I expect instead of jumping far ahead in the timeline, we'll instead only jump ahead by 2-4 years, and get a reboot with a re-cast Luke, Leia, and Han. Similar to the Star Trek reboot, which while there are some things I don't like, and I personally prefer the TNG era, I still enjoyed a great deal.

I think they'll put together a decent story considering all of Geekdom is watching :crackup:

Another pet peeve of mine - the SHAKY CAMERA.

I mean I understand some jitter to convey things happening, but watching elysium over the weekend I was quite annoyed with not being able to see what's actually happening in THE fight scene.

It was ok, but not worth the ticket price imo. Something I'd watch on netflix whenever it comes out on there years from now.

Plot was a complete 100% obvious ten minutes in.

Damon did a passable, but kind of wooden wooden job on acting... 99% of the movie was spent with this expression;

Some of the action scenes, shaky freaking camera, still great, but definitely hurt the movie overall.

Ending was extremely cliche.

All in all, a decent way to kill a couple of hours, just not worth the ticket price.

Go see The Wolverine instead.

Thanks :beer: I'll wait. The previews for Elysium didn't grab me. I know they were high budget effects but it all looked hacked together, especially his augmentations. I like the picture :crackup:

I did enjoy Wolverine, but it wasn't what I expected. Would've been interesting to see Darren Aronofsky finish directing it. Jackman made a huge commitment physically from what the press said. The film still seemed to have some of his influence. He is a rather tragic character and it was interesting to see a bit into his psyche. Oh and the ninjas
