Nuclear energy is fine, the japanese reactor got hit by an earthquake and 14m high tsunami but have yet to explode. And those are even of the older design. Chernobyl was a cheap russian reactor with a positive void coefficient, very succeptible to a runaway condition. Those haven't been made for a long time. Nuclear reactors leave little waste (it does need to be stored for some time, true, but it's really not that much), provide a lot of power on demand (try that with a "sustainable" energy source) and have plenty of fuel to run on with the current energy prices. It doesn't pollute the environment.

Really, nuclear energy should be in the win thread.

A tsunami killing thousands of people isn't news anymore, a nuclear reactor without casualties is. Politicians go crazy. Nothing happened and suddenly nuclear energy is not safe. How about helping japan building up again and leave them to fix the reactors? Wars have been fought with oil in mind, oil disasters can be huge.

Now that's a fail.

An old farmer I knew a few years back had a still (for making ethanol, yeah that's it...for his tractor...riiiiight), after he got through with his corn mash he just fed it to the cows.
Apparently they loved it and the protein content was REALLY high.
If ethanol was being produced on a large scale there would be plenty of lucrative uses for the residual materials.
You could even compress it into pellets for residential heating or use it in the conventional turbine systems that use coal and oil right now.
Steam turbines are one of the most efficient ways of dealing with the energy produced in nuclear, coal, oil, or even wood power plants.
I'm making a flash boiler and steam engine for out at a remote cabin just because it works so well (and sitting in the dark during a winter afternoon sucks...) Water has some handy properties, might as well use 'em ;)

Actually, that's not correct.
I busted my ba... head over it the other day.

The error is when one cancels out the square, that is applies square root over everything.

Square root of 4 is not 2. Not only 2, that is. It's both 2 and -2, since "2x2=4" and "-2 x -2 = 4" .

But he disregarded that and went for only one solution, wrong one, which resulted in entire problem being only partially solved.

I also busted my ba... head over this too. And I solved it, see if you can't do the same :D :
