Red face Ever Had buddie dump his quad on a hill side

While taking a break from everything on Saturday I went for a quad ride with a couple friends

We had been riding for a couple hours when we found this cool hill trail, my Buddie went up trail on his Honda and came
back down, then a friend of his tried it on his new 700 Grizzly and hit a rut that turned his front tires and he sorta
forgot to let off the throttle so over the bank he went.
it's about 65 feet down the slope to the trail below.

No one was even scratched in this accident and the rider was ejected and flew approx 20 feet down the hill side,
from where we were standing and watching the whole thing happen it looked like the quad landed on him, I don't
want to go into what I was thinking at that point.

Lets just say the guy was extremely lucky !

So we got a couple more friends and went back on Sunday and recovered the quad from the hill side.

Here's some pictures...

Both people are looking at the quad on the hill side.

You can see the guy above in this picture, he is at the spot the quad left the trail.

I paned a little right and you can see the quad up side down up against the tree about 20 feet down from where it left the road.

One tree stopped it from going the other 45 feet to the trail below and maybe getting beat up even more, or upon
going over the lower trail it was another 50+ feet to the creek below

So we put it on the rubber and dragged it's butt facing up hill

And used a block and tackle and another quad to let it down the face of the slope.

Only 15 feet to go at this point

10 feet

Thanks for lookin

Good thing no one was seriously hurt. Looks like a good time had by all until his quad took the dump.

Jeff your title says "Ever had this happen" This isnt an open ended question that has nothing to do with the thread?

I'm not busting your chops bro. We've had many debates about posting titles like that. I know you were here. Why not just say "My friend dumped his quad"?

EDIT: No, its goes in the "Other" section. The "General" section is for laser related topics.

Jeff do you think I make things up. Any topic not laser related goes into the "Off Topic" sections. Go tot he main page listing the sections and scroll to the bottom. That why those sections where created.

Listen Jeff, I'm not singling you out. I make comments like this on everyone's threads, because some people dont know. These rules are not my rules, they are rules that have been talked about, and decided on. Stop thinking I'm attacking you personally, I'm not. I'm just communicating the forum etiquette so everyone knows it, and does not make the same mistakes.

Wow, he launched it!

I had kind of a similar thing happen to me back in the day. My buddies and I were riding those dangerous, old school 3 wheelers, and I dumped one on a sharp turn. I had a girl on the back and we both went flying. Broke one of her fingers.

Whoops.

She was my buddy's girlfriend too.

I had an old Honda 250R trike. I cant tell you how many times I dumped that thing. The font wheel would hook the dirt on tight corners every time.

Default Re: Ever Had buddie dump his quad on a hill side

Yea I had a friend that went off a small cliff in an unfamiliar heavily wooded area, he was on a 3-wheeler and didn't see the cliff until the last minute. Flipped the 3-wheeler over and down the cliff, he broke his arm. I was on a quad with a female on the back and was able to stop in time.

It was real heck in trying to get his 3-wheeler back, found another way around and down to where it landed. Had to tow it back to our base camp with him sitting on it with a broken arm in much pain, because I still had the female on the back of mine that couldn't handle his machine.

I wanted to put him on the back of the quad and race back to base camp with him, then put him in the truck and off to the hospital. Problem was the female riding on the back of my quad was his wife, and he insisted we weren't going to leave her there alone while we raced back to camp to get him medical treatment.

She still won't ride with him to this day.

It was a long and painful ride back for him......it could have been much worse though for sure.

HOLY CRAP!! Man I'm glad your friend is ok, that could've been a lot worse if he rolled down with it OR was ejected into another tree or one of those giant boulders laying around everywhere. Thankfully he'll see another day of riding, not so sure about his quad though

Thanks for sharing

Yes there was minimum damage only a bit of a bend in the plastic fender.

Yep it started right up, it is fuel injected so no carburetor to get oil in it from being upside down.

Yes he drove it out just like nothing had happened

We didn't take the rescue equipment up till the next day, I had to come home to get it all, good think I had it

EFI is awesome for just that reason, except when they roll over and the throttle pins wide open....lol. at least with the carb it can run itself out of fuel....EFI just keeps on pourin the coal to 'er until you get to it, hopefully before the bottom end bearings starve of oil

Jeff,

You're old enough to remember what these were like when they only had three wheels

Back in the day, the trike would throw your a$$ off at random times, whenever it felt like it, and take off on its own

Peace,

I used to like the trikes, had a few different ones growing up. if you could get it into your head to never put your foot down they were safe. they were sure a lot more maneuverable than the quads, I kept a couple of the little atc 70s in the shed until my boys were old enough to ride them.

they've since outgrown them, the older boy likes his quad and the younger one is a 2 wheel freak like his pa....
