Hello guys and happy new year, I was looking to buy a new soldering iron and I came accroos this tool from Dremel...Dremel Hobby VersaTip 6 in 1 Heat Tool I searched for videos and reviews but I didn't find any details about it's soldering ability! Any opinions? Has anyone ever used it? :can:

WOnder if it could be used as a reflow iron, too? Thats what it looks like, although I'm not sure how hot it would get. Although since it uses a flame to heat the tip, there's no reason it shouldn't work for soldering.

Yeah, I am seriously thinking about buying it...plus that tip for heatshrinks is awesome! :beer:

I had a similar unit before, and it just didnt compare to an electric soldering iron. However being DREMEL (one of my favorite tool companies) it may actually be really good :thinking:

Temp control is more important than being able to melt anything. With proper solder and iron, you don't even have to worry about how long you take before heat damages components, because you could potentially set iron below damage threshold, but above the solder's melting point, and have lotsa rework time.

Unless you need something for nylon rope, wood etching, etc., too.

I had a similar butane iron before. It worked fine for basic soldering jobs but once it gets cramped, the hot exhaust from the flame burns/melts surrounding parts. Not good for soldering in cramped hosts.

Is there any other soldering iron less than 70$ that you suggest? :thinking:

Unless you really need it to be cordless real bad, I suggest you look for a decent station. there are quite a few under $100. Much more choices than butane types.
