Default Dreams that move you.

Have you ever had an experience where your sleeping soundly, dreaming, and suddenly that dream comes to such an abrupt or fightful end that it moves you? By this I mean the action of waking up is actually augmented by a sudden movement.

You will find these dreams are also easy to commit to memory if you choose to do so. I have done so with both of mine. Both of mine involve aircraft. 1 was a fighter jet and the other a beechcraft twin.

In the beechcraft my engine failed. So did the pilot. I had the plane level up until the engine croaked. Needless to say I was unable to manage my airspeed and altitude and noseplanted it. On hitting the ground, the "holographic simulation" ended and the simulated impact pressed me into the mattress such that I bounced a little. I woke up soaked in sweat (I wonder why!). I was ill at the time, so probably imagined the shock and bounce.

The last was only about half an hour ago. I was coming into land on my local street (dont ask!), and the arresting wire was up (once again, dont ask why they installed one! and they dont come up - they lay on the deck - mabye my cooky imagination got he net mixec up with the wire). I had the F15, shot full of holes by the bad guys, lined up beautifully. I hit the deck and snagged the wire. The sudden decelleration woke me up. I sat bolt upright in bed and the forward momentum of the dream caused me to shift down the bed, as if I was still travelling forward in a car after the brakes were applied forcefully. Once again I woke up wet with sweat. Also when I awoke I could SWEAR i could hear the pistons in the arresting wire brake moving back to position for the next plane to land. VERY WIERD!

Anyone else had experiences like these? Yes I admit I have mentioned some bizarre dreams, but actually being moved by them? Mabye I need to deselect "inertia simulation in standby" in bios

Usually that only happens to me when I watch movies or play video games right before bed time. Several times I have had dreams were I was "killed" by characters from the game I was just playing. Then I will sometimes move quickly as I wake. Worst was when I was a kid and my parents let my see "Event Horizon" while we were on vacation. I had nasty dreams and woke violently, moved, rolled out of bed and smacked my head on a nightstand. O___O

I remember when I was a kid I would dream of falling of a cliff edge and it seemed so real.
Haven't done that in several decades

Although dreams have been dismissed by traditional science as remnants of your imagination that surface randomly, I've always felt there's a bit more to them.

I have played with dream recall and controlling dreams, sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much. I downloaded theta binaural beats and played them in isolation earbuds all night to help me into REM, those were like codeine dreams that night lol.... I remember waking up thinking something was strangling me, only to find the earphone cable laying across my neck.

As far as moving, I know what you mean, and while I'm guessing it's just that much of a simulation for your brain that it makes you move with the momentum, it sure is strange how it happens sometimes.

I'll admit she is amazing at what she does, but her sound becomes repetitive in like one song after you've been tortured by all the dance and dub mixes on the radio with "DJ Depleted Douchebag".

The moving dreams thing has only happened a few times to me - I too have had the falling dream (not to be confused with the crashing plane one). Its very unsettling when you wake up with a start from one of those types of dreams.

I was just curious as to what causes it. I assume it is just a flinch reaction, kind of like when you instinctivly pull your hand away from a brass door knob on a hot summers day after it gives you a tickle from static, or the adrenaline triggered response to freeze generated when we see a harmless spider - we know the spider is harmless, but we automatically pause and scrutinise it just in case its not so harmless.

BTW, lady gaga? that ipod is ruined forever :P

I haven't really experienced the moving dream thing, though I've experienced something else that is really weird, which is incorporating real life sounds into your dream.

For example, one morning I was having a dream about something I can't really remember, though I think someone ended up throwing something at me. They missed, and hit a pole behind me. At that EXACT same time the object hit the pole, someone in the kitchen actually dropped and smashed a glass cup, which woke me up.

It has happened many times before also, like having a dream about jumping into water, and someone just happens to be jumping into the pool outside at the same time as I hit the water.

Might just be coincidence, but it's a damn frequent and well suited coincidence!

I've also had the falling off high object dreams - many times. Sure fire way of waking you up in the middle of the night that's for sure.

You know what's the worst? When you play too much tetris then dream tetris. It's way too easy to do... I think they've done studies on why it happens.

Default Re: Dreams that move you.

I've experimented with lucid dreaming, and also using some medications in slightly off label methods in order to enhance the dream experience.

Currently I don't practice either, but it was interesting.

There is no way that you could actually move as a direct cause of your dream, but it is not uncommon at all to incorporate elements of outside stimuli into the dream experience. For example if you're hot and dreaming of a jungle.

What's always truly fascinated me about dreams is that they are really the only way that we can experience the plasticity of time, where minutes seem like days and vice versa.

Btw, for me, flying dreams are/were by far the ones easiest to gain some level of awareness in. Unfortunately the effect doesn't long in either real time, or perceived time in the dream.

I'd love to have nightmares that would wake me in a sweat, heart racing. It just never happens. All my dreams are like in-depth movies, but nothing scary. I have trained my self to look into the sky while dreaming and its always amazing.

If you want a lucid dream take a lung full of Salvia and close your eyes. Its the best 7 minute dream money can buy.

Yup, it's how our body ensures we always get a good few hours sleep.

You've probably experienced what it can do anyway. For example, if you have a habit of going to bed at 11pm every night, then staying up past that time you'll get very tired. But, if you slowly go to bed later and later each night, you'll wake up later and later each morning and get used to going to bed so late.

So for your case, if you make a habit of waking up at 8pm every morning, your brain syncs up with this cycle and can help awake you before your alarm.
