Usually just after awakening I can remember the details of my dreams quite well. Frequently the events happen in somewhat unfamiliar surroundings or known places with a few made up changes in them.
While dreaming I am always aware that there is a lack of clarity in my surrounding environment - that is to say that there are no fine details or truly random things happening except for the focus of what I am doing. This always tells me that I am dreaming when in the dream. There is never a bird call or other sounds except what I feel there should be OR the sounds that can be heard in the place in which I'm sleeping. (Radio talk/music/or even the damn commercials, car horns, construction etc.)

"It would be great fun if there was a device that recorded the content of your dreams so you could review it all at a relaxed pase later on "
Actually, there is a developing science where a scientist has begun to record the brain waves of individuals while sleeping AND mapped/recorded (like MRI but not quite so detailed) the various parts of the brain with the activities. They are starting to develop crude software to help interpret the dreams - so far they can display images that are loosely formed blobs of color that are recognizable as some images from people's dreams. The example I saw was one where the computer generated image, when compared to one drawn by the dreamer, did contain the general coloring and very rough form of what was being imagined by the dreamer. You needed to see the dreamer's image to give the computer based one any sort of meaning because it was still so generalized and blotchy but the overall colors were right and the "airplane" was only a large distorted grey blob with barely recognizable wings but it was there too.
With scientific and computer related progress going as fast as it does it may not be too long before you can download and watch somebodies dreams. (Or a loose representation of them.)
Still a long way from being able to plug yourself into them though.

Okay................ I feel I have to interject here as this is something I have been studying for a very long time

Some of you have talent and you don't realize it. Some see terror where there should just be fun. If someone is chasing you in your dreams... Manifest a fucking sword, stop, and slice them up*... or better yet, just "jump" LOL

We have to first understand why we dream to understand the process and to take some control.
--Dreams are simply "classes" to see how we react-- set up by our own minds

Some are lucid dreaming;
...
When I dream I am always aware that I am dreaming. A sort of third person awareness in the back of my mind that allows me to experience things in a dream state that can't be done otherwise.
.... begin the original dream again and control the events that originally lead to my demise and take the dream a completely different direction

...
Or engaging in Astral Travel;
...
-My logical mind (consciousness) seems to only allow this denial of physics as long as I don't try to think about it (it doesn't get in the way). As long as the emotional side of my brain "feels" it's way through the dream I can enjoy the sensation of flight. But as soon as I start to think or plan on doing anything related to the flying then the logical mind (consciousness) shuts it down. And it turns out that I am much more logically minded as I age so I don't get to "fly" very often. Only sometimes when running a fever and delusional...but that's a whole other write up.
LOL. Yes. Most "first-time" OBE's are reported in Hospitals or when one is feverish/delusional.

Or. Being a complete idiot with reckless disregard for others lives. :friend:
I was drifting in and out while I was driving on day 4. I'd see the road signs, but they'd be in different places on the road, and it would snap me out of it because I'd realize something was not right. I'd also black out, and come to 4 or 5 miles later.
I hope you have insurance, and a good probate lawyer. :D

-Sleep Paralysis-

Grrr, I hate it when that happens. I've had it a few times. It never lasted minutes though and hasn't happened for a while.
If you can get comfortable in this state you may be able to learn to project.

I find that becoming somewhat aware that you are in a dream is not that hard. What is frustrating is that I usually come awake if I try to exert too much control.
Again. The Conscious mind in the subtle body's territory.

Yes & the creepy thing about it is I know when it's going to happen...

Over the past year or so I have been having a "dream/nightmare" about me being "lifted" above my bed or "pressed" down into the mattress by "something." As noted above, I know exactly when it's going to happen. Before I lay down, I will get this creepy feeling (like sixth sense) that there is a presence around me & that night, it will and does happen. It's extremely difficult to explain but most of the time I feel pressure right above my chest cavity.
PM me and I will let you know what you are feeling (and why) as well as whom the entities (that you can sense but not see) are.

-and some are Remote Viewing -
-not discussed-

Set your alarm to a crazy hour and have your pen and paper right next to you keep writing down you dreams and you will remember them better. But you must wake up at a hour you wouldn't so you are still in the middle of a deep dream like 2am or something....G/L
Yes a dream journal can possibly help one to learn to lucid dream more efficiently.

...
SO how about those sudden maddening jerks that you experience when just drifting off to sleep ? Sometimes accompanied by a sense of falling jsut prior to it. ...
OK. That body jerk is a simple reaction that most of us experience. Read about it here.
I believe it is our subconscious (latent innate response) checking our surroundings "one-last time" to see if your are in an alright place to sleep for 8+hours.

hallucinating and conversating with voices at 4 in the morning walking along the street is well an experience :tinfoil:
Welcome to the life of 73% of homeless people.

We dream at night to allow the body to rest and the mind to rejuvenate by playing "what if" scenarios.
The subjects/scenarios of the dreams are designed to prepare us for situations in the "real world"
**.
We create the dreams out of a combination of visual memories and imagined visual thoughts of what has happened to us and what we expect to happen to us.

Many times we have the same dream several times because our subconscious want's us to "work it out" or "finally get it right". So we don't have to repeat this potential mistake in "real life"
**

One can't exercise control of their if they have a lot of "Mind Clutter" ...

++ Free your mind and your ass will follow ++

** "real world" and "real life" here imply "physical life on Earth" (not "real" from an Objective [outside] Perspective)

*Not possible, of course, if you have bad Karma (demons or Evil Deeds from your past)

This one was pretty long. I remember a couple months ago, i found out i was dreaming but right when I told someone in the dream that I was dreaming I forgot what happened next . It was very weird because I was talking to a fake person. What do you think happened? How did they respond? I Wish I remembered what they said (if they even said anything), I cant wait to lucid dream again.

Not yet uploaded into my online Dream Diary comes this gem that I just had this morning:

02-19-12
For the entire duration of this dream, I was looking for the Super Bear supermarket in Juneau AK. USA. I was riding a skateboard equipped with flashing LEDs, a Light Cannon 100 HID (used as a headlight), and at some points in this dream (especially the segment that puts me on Glacier Highway), a Wicked Lasers S3 Arctic G2 445nm Blue Laser (also directed forward). Most of the time, I was riding on a slightly downhill path; but several segments of this dream did have me riding a level street or even a very slight uphill angle where I had to "kick" in order to keep moving forward.

The dream started near the Juneau Receiving Home (where I actually lived from the late-1970s through the early-1980s). Although the Super Bear was very close in reality (less than two blocks away), in this dream I was not able to find it. I skated through various neighbourhoods; each one becoming more unfamiliar as I went. I asked several people along the way, "Excuse me, but do you know where the Super Bear is?"

Finally, I ended up in some industrial building, and after skateboarding in it for a short time, once again asked some woman, "Excuse me, but do you know where the Super Bear is?", and she said "yes; it's {as my grandma used to say, about two blocks} that way", and pointed her finger toward it. So I thanked her, and started skating "that way". But as I was probably just a couple of hundred feet into my trip, a large steel door came down directly in front of me, and I woke up just before I would have been crushed (and subsequently would have become worm food).

Not once did I douche out (crash) on my skateboard; though I did have a couple of close calls.

The weather was extremely variable; one minute it would be dark ("dark" as in "after sunset") and rainy; the next it would be blue skies and sunshine. Temperatures appeared to stay in the upper 50s farenheit (mid-teens celsius) even though there was a small amount of slush & spotty wet snow on the ground during several segments of this dream.
