Yeah, when you can find it... due to legislational scares from the new presidential administration, people are buying it all up. Today I drove around to one outdoors store and 3 Wal-Marts and none of them had ANY 9mm ammo. Same goes for .40 cal and some others as well. The only way to find it is get lucky and catch them right after they get more stock. I've also looked online and even those retailers are sold out :-/

Ah, only in America do you need a gun to protect yourself (mostly because everyone else has guns too)
As Diachi said you don't need ammo, just got to look the part. But what you ALSO need is a fricken 300mW 532nm laser sight (and a fog machine in your pocket). Now THAT would scare the diamond thieves away!

Only in America?? There are quite a few other countries in which you need a gun to protect yourself. Too bad the governments of those countries don't value the safety of their citizens or their streets.. You find me a country with no murder rate and no crime and then I'll show you a country in which you don't need a gun to protect yourself..
There are many other ways that a person can threaten your safety than with a firearm.. If I'm in another country that bans firearms and someone comes at me with a knife or shank, I'd still rather have a gun than try to fight them off with a knife of my own or by hand..

I'm not really concerned about protection, especially since I can't just carry it around with me where ever I go; you need a carry permit to do that, which requires special training, at least in most states. The only protection I'd be concerned with is home protection, meaning if someone broke into my house while I was home... it has happened to people I know.
But, what I really want to do is go to the shooting range and take pride in demolishing targets. Most places don't have any 9mm ammo around me, so I can't even do that :-/

Buy a reloading press, brass, powder, etc and you can roll your own in no-time. I'm sure you can buy a second hand press for a very modest price.

^whereabouts do you live? I'm unaware of any real shortage of 9mm rounds where I live..
Protection is the only reason that I have firearms. I live in St. Louis, which is one of the most dangerous cities in America.. I can guarantee you that if anyone ever puts my safety or that of my family in jeopardy, I'll be prepared for it.
Every time I hear of people dying in other countries as victims of violent crime I thank the stars that I live in a country where if I so desire, I can carry a weapon so that I can defend myself with lethal force if necessary. I have no love for anyone who attempts to harm me or my family and doing so WILL cost them their life. I'm not seeking to merely injure them. Anyone who would be foolish enough to attempt criminal harm to me or mine should and (if I have my way) will die right there on the spot. Thank heaven I live in a country that values the safety of each and every law-abiding citizen enough to allow us to be prepared for the possibility of crime.
And then you have the fact that an armed populace makes a country virtually impossible to invade successfully. What this means is that each and every American need not fear finding themselves controlled by a foreign government. I'm pretty sure I can speak for any law-abiding American gun owner when I say that if I heard of an attempt at occupation, I would arm myself and join in the fight. Very few countries on the planet can offer the same kind of guarantee to their citizens.
I understand the need for outsiders to criticize our ways. Criticizing America is commonplace among citizens of other countries, and that's fine by me. Criticize all you want. Hopefully it never happens, but if a foreign citizen should find themselves face to face with a killer (no matter what the weaponry involved) I'm pretty sure the wish that they had been prepared for such a situation will be on the forefront of their mind, particularly as the crime is unfolding. Once again.. thank heaven I live where I live. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
