It's not "hate" drlava. When people are left without information, they make up the story for themselves.

Welcome back from the edge.

I trust the defense went well.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- Are you working on something to drive these 445's up to 1.8A? ;)

Dr. Lava,
What daquin said X 2. The things you have to go through to get an endorsement on a piece of sheep hide.... Hope all went well and look forward to getting more microflex's ( I hate trying to get those switcher designs to fire and keep ringing..... always easier/better to let someone go through the pains and buy thier's)

Hi guys! Wow, I'm sorry to see the hate has gotten thick here, and it appears that some people, even a business owner might be trying to take advantage of it as an excuse to copy designs. wow!

The fact is I've had to take a break from selling these for the last month or two because finishing my degree took precedence. I apologize for the delays/inconvenience/laserache that has caused some of you, thank you for your thoughts. I'm happy to tell you that that is over and done with now, things are rolling, and I have a LOT of PMs to go through :)

The drivers are being made right now and I expect to be able to start sending out more of the V5's in about 15 days. Not only that, but a few people have signed up to be distributors, and these people are a lot better with communications on here than I have been able to be, so that is an additional bonus.

I remember when I made the first buck/boost laser driver on this board, back when it was considered a hobby for most people, a fun passtime. People responded with great enthusiasm to the extra capability such a thing provided to the hobby. Fast forward to this year, and it appears lasers have become quite a bit more than a hobby to a lot of people, to the point where they would threaten to undertake ethically questionable practices to 'feed the need'. I think that no matter what stories are made up, it is important to maintain ones ethics like many have in fact done on this board.

I'm especially saddened to see a post in another thread:
"I'm also very close to mailing off a flex drive to someone to reproduce, since I play dirty now." from Matthew Ohrenberg, a guy I think (thought?) is a pretty good guy. I haven't read on this forum recently, so I can't tell what may have changed in your life, maybe the bad economy's turning you cynical? It's so easy to get tunnel vision in a small community like this, but everyone should, and most people do, realize that there is a lot more to the world than pointers. If you find yourself abandoning ethics to 'feed the need' then it might be a good idea to look over the famous 12-step program to recovery.

All that said, lasers and the construction of them are a very enjoyable hobby and I'm working to improve driver availability to meet the expectations of members through helpful members like FlaminPyro, who will most likely become a distributor and contact for these drivers.

Also, I will go through every single PM and respond as appropriate to your questions as soon as possible.

If you have a question about a driver, PM, or anything else specific to you, please either be patient if you have PMed or PM me and I WILL get back to you.

Best wishes to all!

Really dude?

This is a shocker? I agree with Dave 110%.. this is not hate. This is frustration..

You abandon ALL customer service and nearly abandon this entire group of customers and you're surprised when it bites you?

I see all that education you're working on is going very well.. clearly your school doesn't cover common sense.

I'm sorry, but while I most definitely understand what it's like to be busy, you seem to think that you have no obligation to your customer base at all. If people are better able to provide products and services than you are, I say more power to them. With any luck they will have enough respect to send a reply off to a PM, or ship an item in a timely manner or any of the BASIC customer service skills that you lack and obviously feel are completely optional. If you consider yourself a "hobbyist" supplier, ie you only work on your business when you want to or when you find it enjoyable or when you have time, then you should state that fact in no uncertain terms on your website, but you don't. For all intents and purposes it would appear that you are making a legitimate business out of providing drivers, correction amps and other laser-related items.. so either you're in business or you're not.

You were the only one that provided your services, so I can see why you think you can do whatever you want.. but before long others will step up to the demand you're ignoring.

And if your devices are not patented, copyrighted or otherwise protected if they get reverse engineered it is fair play. That's why they have patents, copyrights and a host of other IP protective legislation.

Sorry, but it's well known that I don't kiss ass, I tell it like it is. And these is the facts Andrew.

All the best in your studies.. with any luck one day you'll get some training in providing a high level of customer service.

ElektroFreak: agreed. I have sent him multiple emails in the past and NEVER got a reply. I have even pm'd him on here and he still didn't seem to care (this was before he abandoned us). All of my orders with him have taken over 2 weeks to ship. With flex's out of stock and no updates on the time frame for them to be back I have actually inquired to a company about getting a boost driver that has a settable range of up to 2A and they are working on the design. So look in the near future for an alternate option for a driver. With my history of selling stuff in the past, all of my customers have been more then satisfied.

If you think this is wrong, please by all means let me know. Honestly, I will still do it though.

I do not understand the negative feelings directed towards Dr. Lava. He has always been extremely trustworthy, and I see no reason to not appreciate him and the services he has provided to our community. Dr. Lava had made it very clear that he had to focus on school for a short time, but would be back in business as soon as possible.

I find it hard to fault Dr. Lava for putting his education before his business.

^^^^ re-read daves and ef's response. it isn't really hate. mfo was being sarcastic. dr.lava sells an amazing driver that is necessary to 90% of the builds here. he vanished and people get nervous. it is common sense to think if you cant get what you need from one place get it some where else.

Ryan (member rkcstr) and Kendal (from hitechdealz) were in similar situations and they were alwyas available and the sold
products just and important as dr. lava.

putting his education is priority i agree. but letting his customer base know what was up was just as simple as posting 2 posts. one here and one at pL.

It's just people venting frustration.

Drlava's drivers will be back again shortly and others have started looking into designing and building replacements for them.

That's business ;)

Education IS the priority. That goes without saying. No matter how busy with school someone is, it's generally possible for them to at least post from time to time to keep people informed. That's why I'm entirely unsurprised that people would begin to have ideas of developing new options. I encourage those people to continue and see it through. I also encourage people to find new sources that may already exist. For pointer builds there are about a million different LED drivers and DC-DC conveters, buck/boost drivers etc..

I ask them to really try to accomplish these things not because some people are bent out of shape about drlava's lack of customer service, but rather because the hobby needs it. We've seen what happens when we only have one source for the items we need. Not good.. I wish I had the extra time and expertise to build a new FlexMod type driver.. maybe someday. But both the pointer world and the laser show world need more sources for these things. And BADLY.

I, as well think it is extremely unwise for the people of the laser communities to put all their faith in one person.

Not only does it cause a monopoly, allowing no price competition to stop inflation, but no encouragement to develop new features.

I also haven't seen anything capable of driving up to 1.8A. I have been here for a fair while, and never seen anything new. I think we do need more people to step up and quit being afraid of this giant. The world need competition.

michael.

Ryan was going through Medical school of all things! I remember he use to announce ahead of time when he was going to have finals for need to study, go on trips, or be too bogged down to sell drivers. He would give an advanced notice that he wouldn't be selling drivers during a certain time frame, so everyone could stock up before he took a break.

btw, Ryan mentioned interest in designing a boost drive.
