Re: Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

I think you will find that SenKat has always ran his GB's over here and the reason he stopped on CPF is because all the trouble its members were causing him and even though he has always been poite and professional and if something has gone wrong offered a full refund and note I said full refund.... some ppl have taken to making personal attacks and starting trouble which they would never of done in a shop yet they deem its ok to make these attacks on a nice guy trying to do everyone a favor and get the best price possible.

Now about 22 of there were ordered at $130 each with shipping he is charging now thats about half the price of most retailers charge without shipping yet you are not attacking them for the profits they are making. In fact if you work out how much he might of made say $5 per laser by the time he ships them out and you factor in the returns costs of faulty units and the costs of the laser checking equipment he has made a big loss in fact if you dont even factor in the laser measuring equipment he has still made a loss. If you read the entire thread and other threads you will realise that Senkat has lost on this one by quite a bit, and to make say $2000 that you mentioned he would of had to of gotten the lasers at $20 which we all know aint the case.

The amount of time and patience and rubbish he has had to put up with I dont care if he made $20 or even $50 off of me as at the end of the day I know I can trust him to deliver a quality service and product .

The long and the short of it is this...if you can get a better price on anything in a group buy, THEN GO AHEAD AND BUY IT!

I think that says it all

i personaly don't care if senkat makes a profit, infact i expect him too, well i did. but like he said with the shipping an stuff he's probably at a loss. i could re sell my laser and make a profit. its 200mw of focuable red with a 12 month guarantee. for the price nobody could beat it. nobody is losing out in a group buy, maybe the person running it at times, but everyone who buys knows they're getting something cheaper than retail. why else would they want in on it?

so to conclude, nomatter who profits, you the buyer are still saving. it's win win.

I'm just a new member that has been lurking around reading posts for quite a while but I noted on CPF that a member has charged you with making a profit on the groupbuy. I was just wondering if you could prove him wrong by posting a receipt, since embezzling a profit would really be sour

I could care less if senkat made a profit. if he did good for him, he deserves it for dealing with the BS and being the middle man. a "Group Buy" is the pooling of the resources of the many to take advatage of a wholesale rate. You cannot easily get the pricing on your own, so you jump in with the buying power of others to pool your advatage and leverage your buying power. Laser in particular have a steep drop after you get past the miniscule quantities and get into the big buys.

Diodes that cost $100 a pop can come down to cents, each once you buy enough in bulk. Usually the price breaks start to occur at the dozen or 50 or 100 unit levels.

Another thing that's good about group buys is avoiding overhead, especially on laser buys from china. CNI wants wire transfers and fees and such, once you get past that overhead with a few orders, rather than being an extra $50+ each you can make a a dollar or so and really get a good deal that can even beat the bigger guys.

Why is it that I have been banned from laserman94 when all I have done is made a general inquiry on the inner workings of group buys?  If you are banning me for this, then you are hiding something.  I would respect honesty as a role in the moderator, and will be asking administrators for ruling on this since you have abused your powers.  Knowingly that you have been laid off in the past month (which I can empathize to), group buy profits are not an alternative.  Rightfully so, I will get the revenue agency to review these transactions and launch a complaint.

soo.... anyone else in here want to bet that this guys IP address is coincidentally similar to picrthis's?

what is this guy's problem? now senkat has to be scared silly becuase the REVENUE AGENCY is coming after him!!!

It is rather ironic that you have chosen not to run any more group buys on CPF because they have been accusing you of turning a profit, and now you are running group buys here.

laserman, I see where you're coming from. It would look kinda suspicious from the outside. However, consider the fact that the group buy he got accused of profiting on CPF was THIS group buy. This very post. If you read it through (I havent! its huge), you can see the continual upsets by the supplier, and SenKat's continual attempts to remedy the problem - putting his own finances at risk in the process.

SenKat doesn't have anything to hide with this GB and he has let us know the progress from the start. It looks like its been a horrible process, and people are getting kinda screwed, but not at all by Greg. He just unluckily got caught up in all this with a dishonest supplier. Can we blame him for this? I dunno, I'm not in on this buy. Perhaps you can. But don't start falling for picrthis' BS and broken math about SenKat profiting, or I will understand and agree with your ban.

The bottom line is its nobody's business if there was a profit at all?

When I go to the store to buy a shirt, I have no idea if the merchant is making a killing, or a modest profit, or going in the hole trying to cut his losses because his business is suffering.

The bottom line is if I like the price for what I'm getting based in my knowledge of the competition, I buy it, ...... if I don't, I move on?....

Someone that ask whether you made a profit or not should be told its none of their business unless he's interested in becoming a partner!

Usually people that are worried about it are the ones that want something for nothing and have been spoiled all their life and sheltered by mommy too much.

I paid $13 for each diode. A dvd drive would have been $25-$40 and a lot more work. If SenKat made a profit on the group buy, he deserves it. I hope that he didn't go through all that mailing and trouble without making a penny!

Stop causing trouble, nobody wants it here.

Agreed but not until I get my 2 cents in! I personally don't care whether you make a profit or not. It is easy for me to research your prices and find out whether or not I am getting a good deal. Every group buy you have done has been an excellent deal for me and I appreciate everything you do..and you know this but I like to say it out in the open. You have my continued support 1000%. And so does anyone else that does a group buy I get involved in. It is my choice whether or not I want to participate in GB's.

I am an adult, I can make my own decisions. And I find many younger people on this forum making good decisions as well! Why? Because it is not just about buying something. This forum teaches us how to use lasers safely, how to use the items we do buy from here, how to mod...the list goes on and on. This forum is priceless for the knowledge contained within it.

I have been in several group buys.
The point of a group buy is for the group to get a better price than if they bought something on their own.
The person setting up the buy is the broker, he does all the hard work and is the go between.
It is perfectly ok for him to make a profit.
If item X costs me $200 if I go and buy one but i can get it for $175 if I go in a group buy I do not give a damn what the guy in the middle is paying.
I look at it as $25 saved. If he made $10 or $100 that is a moot point. The point is I saved $25

In my other business of fireworks I have people do group buys all the time.
It is a known fact among the people that the guy that does the work makes a profit plus he gets any free items I toss in with the deal.

There is always one assclown that thinks he is entitled to the same price as the guy that did all the work.
That is just not the case. If you can find a better price on your own go for it, if not do not cry because someone made a buck off you.

It is the crybaby's that ruin it for everyone else.

It would be interesting to see the IP address of laserman, something tells me he is in Florida.

The capitalistic system is responsible for these devices from inception to production to delivery.  Why in the world should SenKat be the end of that chain and deny himself earned income?  Because you say so?  Because others have?  If you don't like the price find a better one.  Or better yet, go do a group buy yourself and give your time and money risk away and beat his price.   Don't bitch like a socialist that his motives are not pure enough for you all the while taking advantage of every opportunity and comfort that capitalism offers you.

Nicely said wilheldp and Pseudo.

The truth is that in GB's there is NO profit margin. I have overestimated things before, and ended up losing money. I have had dealings with several forum members and ended up losing many. They will even testify to me telling you the shipping is $10, and then the package comes to you with $18 of shipping plastered on it. YES! I just lost $8 on this one shipment! I am not here to make a profit. I am here to have a good time, help others and enjoy the company that is LPF. It's a very nice group of people with one common goal... Lasers! Am I right?

As about the SenTorches, I believe that the profit margin was in the order of a few dollars on each piece. I say that liberally! Then, add to it the price of shipping here and there... you end up with almost nothing. Are you expecting that the price of the laser is $75, as picrthis said before you, (which I have no reason to disbelieve, as per your derogatory comments, that you are picrthis... this was a personal opinion that I inferred from your second post!) and that shiping is $100, and then shipping to us is $5 a piece? Think about it again! That is absurd! Shipping 2 measly 5.6mm diodes was $35 on my samples!!!  I estimate the shipping was in the order of $300-$400 maybe. Then there is other surcharges that they like to add on. There is bank fees, handling fees, packaging fees, shipping the crap back, testing the item before shipping it to you, packaging it for shipment to you, and the shipping cost to deliver it to you. You honestly cannot estimate these at being $10 on each laser... and if you do, go look for a new hobby. Go read a marketing/accounting/economics book! Go GET A LIFE!

We're not here to get rich off people, I know SenKat personally and I have talked to him about this exact same ordeal. He is losing money on his GB's just like I am! When I calculated my GB prices for the LPM meters, and then recalculated for the 5th time after I got things all finalized and published, my ONLY profit margin is the $5 to assemble the data cables! I actually end up paying shipping to ship MY OWN meter to myself, even though I am not actually shipping it anywhere! Just to give you an idea! :-/

You need to stop acting smarter than you really are and just being mature and try to hold some manners! What you are doing is only scrubbing your own face in the dirt. Read over the older posts and get more educated with the risks involved before you claim such rude accusations!

P.S. SenKat, we all know and trust you. Clowns as such can only be the expected and unavoidable pain in the neck that we just have to deal with. You are doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work bro.
