That tower is almost 1/3 of a mile or a bit more
than 1/2 of a kilometer high...

@00Giorge... no I was referring to the traditional
Sky Hook....

Lol, I'm terrified of heights and would never do that, but I'm taking electrical engineering so I should get used to the heights.

That free climbing is so dumb tho, just last month, someone in my home town was working on a microwave tower and fell 27m to his death.

Parachuting is basically out of the question on these things. First, BASE jumping is extremely dangerous when you jump and control yourself the whole way. If you fall, you're out of control and you're not going to successfully open your parachute.

Second is even worse: This is a tower that uses guy wires, not a freestanding tower. So you fall, even if you manage to somehow miss the tower and somehow deploy your parachute, there's still a high probability that you're going to hit a guy wire on the way down.

Either way, it's a better idea to avoid the bulk and weight of a parachute (which would make it more likely for you to fall) than to think that a parachute might save you if you fall, when it's much easier to just wear a harness and avoid falling.

You don't have to be used to heights to be an electrical engineer. The only electrical engineers that have to work on towers are the ones who, you know, work on towers. I've met hundreds of EEs, and I've never met one who has had a job that involved working with heights of any kind. Well, I guess there were some who had offices on the 3rd or 4th floor of a building, but that's about it....

Those facts had somehow eluded me....:yabbem:

And thus becoming the zip line ride from hell :D

I wonder how much they get paid....and how much they pay for medical insurance?

I just have to say...I climb high steel for rock shows that can get up to 200'(even though thats rare)mostly around 85-100' and I loved watching this! I'v always wanted to give one of those a try...though that is higher than any i'v ever seen. I'm not sure why he doesn't use a small backpack instead of hanging a tool bag off him, but there must be a reason.
thanks for putting this video out....i'm sure my fellow workers will enjoy this!
These guys are off the hook....that takes real focus!
