Which was sort of my point. I thought the song 'black hole sun' was quite a hit among a wide audience at the time (mid 90s) but i might be mistaken, or for some reason it was big in the netherlands but not elsewhere.

Anyway, without the suicide i would associcate it only with soundgarden and nog with Cornell - i probably never bothered to figure out the name of the singer as you find tracks by title and 'artist' (which in this case would be the bandname in most systems).

Suicide might have an impact on remembering an artist name i believe. Let's take Kurt Cobain for an example. His suicide was quite a bit of news back at the time, but if that didn't happen most people would probably still remember the songs but associate it only with the bandname 'nirvana'.

Grunge isn't my cup of tea to the point of despising it just like I do any slam dancing type of music that has the neo nazi following. I can't even make out half of the word's as it all screaming.
Seoul, thats your preference and all the power to you as you are your own man and any suicide is painful to all family's involved.
Being though this depressive music has a following and I can see young kids battling with this issue following this man and his lyric's, I see many copy cat suicides ruining more family's coming because of his choice
Wasn't it also just a few years ago that there was a trend of teenagers committing suicide just because they believed they would go out with a bang of glory??

I like lots of different kinds of music, not just Grunge.
I just remember soundgarden, Silverchair, Blind Melon, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple pilots and Pantera were a staple of my youth before I was introduced to the wider world of music from other countries.
In 1996/7 my life changed forever when I was introduced to Hide (Hideto Matsumoto) of X-Japan while in Japan visiting our host families in Sendai, Japan.

I am well rounded musically now. That I can assure you. :beer:

It was sad news. RIP Chris Cornell. I was never a big fan of his work, grunge was never my style, I was always drawn more to the upbeat/prog styles of rock like Van Halen or Iron maiden, or Rush.

But I did like Spoonman and Black hole Sun, they are frequent plays on the local radio stations and I almost always kept them on when they came on.

Suicide is always a sad thing, and I also heard recently regarding his death that he had been on some new medication and maybe the side effects were suicide, and they got the better of him. His family swore he would never take his own life, maybe they are in denial, or right. Who knows now It is sad. I wish he could have gotten help.

Yes, we will have to wait and see long term, however, we can already see now/today 2017 and mostly nobody remembers or cares and it is not likely to get any better --only worse. Keep in mind "Superunknown" the one Soundgarden album that sold moderately well--`and had 2 songs that won PERFORMANCE Grammys not music Grammys---happened was 22yeara ago--since then, 22 years ago they have done a big fat nothing so...

Grammy awards---Cornell never won a Grammy--he was nominated 9 times which is something, but he never won. Cornell was at best an "also ran" along with many many other people who shall reamin nameless because Artists who don't win are nameless,, nobody remembers them or needs to--they remember the winners or some of the winners , maybe.
When they publish lists of who won Grammy awards they only list the winners --not the losers that were nominated but lost and for good reason--who cares about who lost or remembers who lost a Grammy? Nobody.

"Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman" did not win music/gong Grammys----that they did is not true--a msperception and/or wishful thinking. Soundgarden --the band won two Grammy Awards in 1995; "Black Hole Sun" received the award for Best Hard Rock Performance and "Spoonman" received the award for Best Metal Performance--neither of the catagories are for a song--they were for a type pf performance--very different from from a song.

Two questions:

What does "honour" in that way over the top exaggereated statement mean in the real world? That you listened to a record and and/or liked a song?
2. How about the statement in the title "Seriously depressing news? Is that a joke or what--hw is that even possible in the real world?

So far, I have assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you were not a close personal friend Chris Cornell nor a blood relative or close family member of Chrsi Cornell. If you fall into either of those categories then I apologise for being a bit rough with my coimments.

If my assumptions are correct then "seriously depressing news" and " honouring" as if you had a personal relationship of some sort with the deceased in the real world, other than having listened to a record and liking a song is a bit hard to believe. There is no basis for it. That you are seriously depressed and/or grieving, bereft with grief is more than bit disconnected from real world don't you think?

Whatever/whichever the case may be, I hope you "get a grip" and feel better soon.
