Check your credit card statements if you use GoDaddy!

Was checking my bank statement today and noticed a charge for a Muscle and Fitness Cyberstore for nearly $250.00!

Needless to say I've never shopped there. I tracked down the e-store and of course they don't have any record of any orders with my name and won't give out information based on card number only. (Rightly so)

Now there are a lot of places I use my card at, although physically it almost never leaves my hand with all the do it yourself card machines at stores. There are several places online that have the debit card, however given recent news with GoDaddy I'm looking towards them for the source of the leak. I have no proof at the moment of course.

I have to cancel my card, which is going to be a major pain in the backside and I have to wait for this payment to actually post as it's just in a Pending state right now and the bank can't / won't do anything until it actually comes out of the account.

If you use godaddy just keep an eye on your charges for awhile.

Depending on what day of the week it is, godaddy has either been hacked or it was just a "network" issue that took everyone (including LPF) offline the other day.

@RHD: If you read this, how did your credit card issue get resolved? If I remember wasn't it DD or one of the other China laser stores you suspected? I think I may have used my card with them at one point too.

Generally a good idea to go through statements once a week, or more often. Takes about ~5 minutes to scan through, and spot things that you don't recognize.

Even if it's a $1 charge, BE SUSPICIOUS of it. It is not uncommon for a small charge to appear first, well before a much larger charge.

I had a charge from Apple show up on my account several times for under two dollars... which is a huge red flag considering I never bought a single apple product in my life.

Most of the major banks actually make it very easy to change debit cards, walk in, ~10 minutes later walk out. Of course if you have any kind of recurring billing to that card number, that's a pain in the butt :(

Hope you get your money back soon JC.

Edit: Minor side note also, try to use cash whenever possible, especially when dealing with small business you want to support. Most smaller stores out there end up paying anywhere from 1.5% to 4% on average, on credit card transactions. On low margin items, those 2-3% make a huge difference over time. I'm surprised more stores don't offer a 1 or 2% cash discount :undecided:

I'm reasonably sure I won't have any issues with my bank as far as getting the money back in the account. They are generally pretty good with stuff like that.

That's what was a little odd with this charge, I would expect to have seen a couple of small "test" charges first before someone tried for 250.00. What I'm going to do is have the bank turn off my card for 7 days and keep and eye on any new pending charges. At the end of the 7 days the card is cancelled automatically and a new one issued unless I tell them not to.

Anyone that's seen me though know right away that I wouldn't be sending money on any "fitness" products. :D This is one of those sites that sell all the "chemical fitness". Whey powers and other such stuff that I'm sure have very little to do with actual fitness.

With godaddy ( or any web host / registrar ) I use PayPal. Mainly as they are extremely good for buyers & if there's a problem you change your password & email done... Open a case done... ( buyers win 90% of the time also for most cases )

My credit card is never used anywhere on the Internet other than digikey
