So... The weirdest thing happened today. I made a thread awhile back about getting my catalytic converter checked out & how it showed it wasn't passing the temp. test & the CEL was on. Anyway,

Today when I started my car the CEL was gone & I was told by the local mechanic there wasn't a need to take the car in now. My last two gas fill ups were done at the Costco gas station instead of an Arco one(which I think started the problem of the light). But still their test showed it wasn't working properly.

I haven't suffered any power loss or anything so....532 Labby I can buy? :)

I wouldn't buy it yet. Give the car another month and see how it goes because car troubles never fix themselves. Or at least wait to the end of this month and see if anything happens yet.

Smart, I was debating that too! I get my next paycheck in just over a week so I'll wait until then to buy it :)

Yes Lehap I would wait a bit like VG said, ive had cars that fooled me with the light going off for a while but coming back on like 2 weeks later. Ive also gotten gas from shady gas stations and my car would run like crap till I filled it again from another place. Arco is a known company but if there privately owned they can get sometimes get away will adding a little water to their gas. Ive seen it first hand. Lehap it looks like you got the laser "bends" every since you got that first labby!

Thanks for chimming in GSS!

Yeah, I'll give it until next Wednesday and if it dosent come back on, then 532 Labby here I come! I do think I got stung by the Labby addiction, which means an expensive road ahead :(

Buy the Labby and Drive to Texas. No stinking emissions tests here. Hollow out that Cat and be done with it. (Won't pass emissions).

I will not be a happy camper when/if Texas goes the route of emissions testing. Luckily most of my hot rods will be grandfathered in because of their age. The other loop hole is to buy vehicles without the "smog" pumps. If it didn't come with them from the factory you don't have to put it on. Some vehicles of the same year/model have or don't have them. There are always loopholes.

Look I planet a tree like 8 years ago. I'm still good right?

This time stick to the labbies though! It'll be another expensive road if you decide to go handheld again later on.

^Haha, will do!

I called the mechanic again, and he told me if the car has good gas mileage, drives well etc... I should be good to go(which it does).

Ugh, these labbies are going to cost me tons :(

A loose gas cap can trigger the CEL depending on the year of your car.

Once it's triggered there are several operation parameters you must complete before it resets, such as 10 seconds between 30mph and 45mph, 10 seconds at 20mph-30mph and so on during which time sensor readings have to be within limits.

So if it was a loose cap your ok, but if you have a marginal cat and the cheap gas put it over the limits then the clock is running, but it's not necessarily your cat, how long since a tune up? Plugs, wires, air filter, do you have any stumbles or skips?

Hey RC,

The car was inspected before being sold to me(not too sure about that but the folks at the dealership said they check all of this) in July. The car itself runs fine, it starts up fine, drives fine and acceleration is likes it's always been!

Sometimes the car does take a little longer to start, but I've had issues like that in the past.
