Thanks ped.

Luckily in Australia not many criminals carry handguns with them for petty crimes like this. Even during serious crimes like hold ups etc knives are usually used due to the difficulty of obtaining a firearm. And the price. An illegal handgun costs upwards of $2000 on the streets here. Even .22 rifles aren't much cheaper..

Maybe you just need to reconfigure the alarm system, does not sound as if your dogs need to be throughout the whole house! Lol You could have is so that the parts the dogs go to at night are not armed but other parts are, Start off with security lights outside. There are so many things but you don't want to feel like a prisoner either. But lights are a good deterrent, strategically placed so the just don't all come on at once! Your own safety is important as well as your "Stuff"

That sucks. I'm surprised neither of you heard anything. Hopefully you are able to recover everything. The lasers will be hard to get back though.

A hit from one of these should keep the thief from coming back.

RayJay, so sorry to here of this. Thankfully you and your g.f. weren't harmed!

It really sucks big time that you can't even report the loss of your lasers. As others have said, maybe you'll see some beams flashing around at night.
Be sure to tell your friends to keep an eye out for them also.

Here's hoping for some of that "Instant Karma" justice for those bastards!

P.S. - Dr evil's methods work very well also! :eg:

Theives really are the scourge of the human race. Im not talking bout the kid who steals a lolly, but these fu@#$%s who most probably steal to support an addiction. Sorry to hear the loss, shame you can't report your lasers as stolen as you're not meant to have them :(

This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry for you losing so much stuff. Glad nobody was hurt though.

On the subject of security, do you have a dog? If not, might want to consider getting yourself a dog of a larger breed. If you get the right dog, you could have a triple effective defence:

1) A dog will hear someone sneaking around, and likely alert you to the fact
2) A dog will intimidate/deter people from breaking in in the first place
3) Depending on the dog, the dog may even attack intruders and/or defend you

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

Just so long as it's not a golden retriever or other stupidly friendly breed. I had a friend whose house was broken into, she hid in her closet and the theifs ended up playing with the dog before they left with her computer.

That's really terrible, I'm glad you two are unscathed.

Yes, hopefully they stare right into the aperture of a multiwatt blue for a few seconds, in each eye!

That really sucks to hear. :( Glad that no one was hurt. I could live with coming home and finding stuff gone, but it would bother me infinitely more if it happened while I was home.

A few years ago several houses on my street were hit by a burglar, including both of our neighbors, but we were left alone. I think any thieves sizing up our place would look in the back window and see the old CRT TV and cassette deck and move on. ;)

that's genuinely crap. I hope they went onto the next street and got ran over by a bus. If you have home contents insurance that will help soothe some of the damage.

That hurts just looking at your sig with the "Stolen" tags. :(

I know it's a little too late, but its Just a suggestion, get rid of the motions and put glass breaks and/or contacts on all the doors and windows. It avoids those issues unless they cut through a wall/floor/ceiling.

Also put double cylinder deadbolts on any door that has a window within reach and Window pins on all windows

And if you can afford it, put in high security locks (i.e. Medeco, Primus, multilock, Assa, etc)

They can't be key bumped, almost impossible to pick and they are Grade 1 locks instead of grade 3 like most residential. Best out there.

But none of it helps if you hide a key outside or leave a door unlocked. Sorry again. :(

I'm a locksmith here in the US - 20 years experience and an ALOA CRL. I deal with it everyday and it happens more often than you think. It's really awful that people can be like that.

Here in the US, they almost never catch anyone that breaks in after it happens, unless it is a long string of them. Too hard to prove and too much hassle for them. Sometimes the police even know who it is but unless they catch them in the act they won't do much. I hope you have better success and end up getting your lasers back.

Wow. I truly, truly hope they blind themselves. Make sure to keep an eye out on craigslist and ebay, if they are that stupid. As much as I hate living in a small town, surrounded by amish, it is nice not having to worry about breakins and such. We left our garage wide open, and left for the weekend once...nothing was touched.

Terrible sorry this happened to you. True scum of the earth, thieves...

Thanks again to all of you for the condolences..

Dr Evil.
The sucky thing is that even if i had a gun licence and had a gun on the property, in Australia you have to have your gun in one safe, your bullets in another and mag's in a third. By the time you opened your safes and loaded them the robbers would be well and truly gone. Also, if you shoot/bash/etc someone on your property.. You go to jail. Don't even get me started on our stupid laws..

Blarg King.
We have 2 dogs! A mini fox terrier and a tenterfield terrier. The funny thing is they usually bark at anything! But our bedroom is up one end of our house and the part which they broke into is all the way at the other.

2007Revolution.
I have been broken into over a decade ago and had alot stolen but it's very different to know there were people in your house whilst you were sleeping. My girlfriend feels unsafe and is really distraught over the fact we lost so much, all together it came to $8500. We also found some of her jewellery missing today.

trencheel303.
We are renting at the moment and didn't have contents insurance unfortunately. So we just have to eat the losses.

Icecruncher.
Because we live in a rental there isn't much we can really change. I have my own Schlage front lock that i take with me from house to house and i just install myself, I bought that a couple of years ago. Problem is they came through the back sliding door.. I went and got a bolt lock for it today as it just had a simple lock on it, which i have since found out, you can open quite easily by lifting the door off it's rail.
From what i have been told next to no break ins get solved here either unless the perp gets caught trying to hock something with a serial number or something. Lets hope they sell the mrs laptop to one.

Vortish.
I feel the same mate..

Again, thank you all for the support. I was a lurker here for many years just reading up and building my own lasers but i never knew what a great bunch of guys you are and i am happy to call any and all of you friend.

Lets all keep an eye out encase this guy tries to sell the lasers online.
I have all my labbies on a shelf in my room In view of a window I always get mad when I find the curtain on that window open after dark. I don't want people to see my collection.
