Hey, does anyone here have Boost Mobile as a cell phone provider? I was contemplating getting their $50 a month unlimited everything plan. If you have them, how would you rate their service on a scale of 1-10, 10 being best. Also, their phones are hella expensive. Anyone know if I can used an unlocked phone on their network? Thanks guys! |

Barf Mobile is cheap, but from what I have been told is that they have horrible coverage. This could be just in my area though.

I have boost mobile and I have not had any problem with it yet, I got the i465 Clutch. If you want a blackberry it would cost an extra $10 bucks a month. It depends on where you live whether or not the service will be good or not. Where I live it works fine.

Unlocked Boost phones don't seem to exist. They are iDEN or CDMA phones. Boost is owned by Sprint Nextel but while they may use the Sprint Nextel network they Will give Sprint or Nextel phones priority over Boost if there is any network crowding or other issues. Sprint & Nextel users are just more valuable customers for them. I had a Boost phone too long ago & kept it for too short a time to really speak of how the service might be now. Since your in NYC & need to deal with building penetration I would suggest going with a larger carrier or looking into Boost NYC service more. Its just so frustrating losing signal where you want it. I don't know if Boost is still selling 850MHz only phones but you would want to be sure its 850 / 1900. In NYC you will want a low & high frequency for any phone really, low penetrates into buildings well whereas high gives more data & user capacity but often just sucks indoors. 850, 1900 & 1700 are used in the USA. 900, 1800 & 2100 won't help in USA only overseas. If they spent a little less on advertising & competing with each other but instead just cooperated a tiny bit on ensuring good coverage it would be less confusing & frustrating for all.
