This is common with cheap media and not just subject to blue-ray.

They have a layer of organic dye which gets altered in burning process.
This is what you are actually writing on.

I must have read 4000 pages about Blu-ray and blu-ray rot last night ! WOW...this is not hte first time it has happened with Sony, either - the video laser disk players ? Recall those ? Yeah - lots of those experienced the same thing ! So - this leads me to think that blu-ray could EASILY become the Beta-max of this decade if they don't get their heads out of their collective asses, and fast ! HD-dvd and Blu-ray are almost neck and neck in this race for formatting.....if this becomes too widespread, blu-ray will be a forgotten technology by the end of the year. Horrible thing that - but I have two diodes incoming (thanks, Psuedo !) soon - building SteveTexas and I a couple of blu-ray lasers hopefully.....the SenKat/Sonar hybrid will live ! Muahahahahahaha !

Things....MAKE ONE ! :) hehehehehe

You can buy the Sonar case from Wicked for $50.00, and you can buy the blu-ray diodes from ebay for around $80, so you can build one yourself for less than $150, and save $1850 off of the purchase price that Wicked asks for ! LOL !!! Weeeee-hooooo !
