Hey guys, I recently got a radar/ laser detector and installed it in my car. Its a cheap one from walmart around $50 (cobra 9 band 7000 esd). Anyone who has a radar detector where do you mount yours. I have one mounted in the middle of the windshield a little more to the drivers side. I have only had it for like 3 days and drove by around 6 cops and it hasn't went off. I know it doesn't go off if there radar isnt on but im pretty sure that at least one must of had his radar on. It goes off for the cameras though ( but when i get right on them and its kind of late). So where do you mount yours, and is it effective. (and what brand is yours.)

Best place to mount it is back in the original packaging so you can return it.

It's useless.

Most cops now use lidar based speed guns now, speeding tickets are a good revenue generator and departments tend to keep them up to date.

In fact if you do get pulled over for speeding and have a radar detector chirping away in your car, the cop is that much more likely to give you a more severe ticket...

I speed all the time... haven't had a ticket in four years... using the two mark 1 eye ball radar detectors:p

What you have to realize if the cops now specifically target your car, and then get a speed reading, therefore it's simply a game of who sees whom first.

Most of the cops here in cedar rapids, Iowa use the X band. There is rarely lasers even on the highway. And you are right if i was a cop and saw the detector i would probably give you a tickets. But it has a easy release clamp so i can take it out fast. by the way what is lidar? Is that where the time how long it takes you to pass the lines?

They use those some times on the highway but not much. And thanks for the info, by the way it finally went off. I was going down a busy road and it started beeping i thought it was a false reading until a sheriff came up from behind me. It started beeping a good time before he actually got up to me or before i could see him.
