also the print on the buildings isnt moving and clearly there would be movement from the boat on the water.

Are you guys sure it's fake? I think the police thing at the end was but have you seen that one avatar? I forget who's it is but its a buch of writing and pac man on the side of a building and it is being controlled by a laser and something else. I'm pretty sure there was a thread about it.

It looks like there is fog in the beam.

I agree with the boat moving thing though, I just don't know.

I think the colors have been played with.. That's probably a green laser.

The way this is accomplished is using a webcam and a projector... Search for "graffiti research labs laser tag" for more info.

lol, what laser rock have you guys been living under? This one here: YouTube - Graffiti Research Lab L.A.S.E.R Tag is a very well known video. That's the one you're thinking of ZRTMWA.

I suspect it's the same people doing this video, and it would be 100% legit.

EDIT: Cross posted by pseudolobster, but at least I've got a straight link to the vid :)

This is professional video editing, and very fake. Probably disguised marketing by som big a$$ comapany. That's very usual. I remember a cupple of years ago, people paid by Coca Cola were spamming Norwegian forums with links to youtube commercials promoting Coca Cola Zero, and a short casual comment, like, “Hey guys, check out this funny vid i found on Youtube”. Hidden marketing like that is illegal in Norway, by the way. I guess they were desperate because Pepsi has the bigges market share over here (people tend to prefere Pepsi Max over Coca Cola Light).

Edit: *Maybe the projector and some other technical stuff is real, but that projector must be land based, and the whole thing about them doing a secret, unofficial prank from that boat is just plain fake.

how many Lumens would you need from a projector to do this on a building like that ?

Murudai.. I understand how it would all work together, but I have never seen such a bright aqua handheld laser pen.. its got a nice beam plus when they zoom in to the building as they write on it there is no up and down movement from the boat (even if it was calm water their will be movment from people waking and moving around on the boat).. leading me to believe its fake.. they whole consept is simular to how a smart board works but instead of pressing on the board the position is picked up but a camera according to where the laser is pointed, then projected using a simple scanner.

There's videos of this on youtube. That laser is actually a greenie. I found a similar vid awhile ago searching for beam videos I believe. I'm thinking they messed with the colors. Also, in the other vid that i saw, you could see that there was some slight disparities between where the laser was and the look of the font. I believe that the software from the projector would recognize the shape of the digit and then project the font to look 'written'.

It's real, there's a video on youtube I saw about 2 years ago advertising the technology involved. (I only watched about 30sec of this one) Anyone can download the software, it uses a camera to record the movements of the dot on the building, and feeds it back to the projector to display. I remember getting really excited about it a while back when they made the software publicly available. I'll see if I can find the original vid/links.

That's the original article I saw.

Final Edit : I specifically remember it since it marked the first major exhibition of augmented reality. I dunno if the whole "vandalism" plot is real or not, but the technology definitely exits.

i think its just the camera messing with the color.. my BR shows up blue on my cam.
but the vid is real. graffiti research lab was the first to do this i think.. they showed how to do this. all it is .. is a projector , a camera and a laser.
the camera picks up the laser and draws it with the projector on the same spot it was pointed at . simple really. check the how 2 link
