I think this movie combined a lot more than dances with wolves in space. It has some other stuff (recent Afganistan/Iraq) thrown in there as well. Anyways, I loved the attention to detail and the way James Cameron with a lot of help crafted the Na'vi language. Pure genius! Linguistically it is as close to a real language as you will find in a sci-fi like this.
The movie simply put, is pure eye candy. There will be a whole series based on this movie. It only gets better from here! I also love the characters especially Nya'tiri who is feisty but has a warm heart. I can attest to her attributes as I live here in S.korea for the time being. I find Korean women very similar to her. Hot blooded (people not to cross), but warm hearted/loving underneath.
Koreans love this film and it has been something of a cross cultural experience for all.
You see Korea was invaded quite a few times in it's long history, the last time being in ~1919 by the Japanese Empire who basically tried to assimilate the local population and killed 1000s doing so. There were people very emotional in the theater over the scene during the falling tree and the final battle.
People were on their feet and cheering at the end of the film.
