Anyone here take Curcumin from Turmeric? Opinions pro or con?

Well, I wasn't taking aspirin with the Lisinopril, never had, just something my doctor said I should do and researching it today, I see she was wrong.

Here in Indonesia, it often served as a "jamu" or may be translated as herb drink, it brewed with other potential herb like Zingiber officinale root (ginger), Kaempferia galanga root (galingale), Andrographis paniculata, Tinospora crispa ,and even papaya's leaf. I myself drink that when the opportunity meets because the "walking seller" is rarely seen on the city.

I'm actually quite surprised that the herb can interract with chemical synthetic medicine and cancel out the effect :wtf:

As in here ppl that always drink that only makes them immune to the "modern/city's disease". I think even if this is just a coincidence, they said if your food contain this many herb (like food in Indonesia, Arab, and India) it'll cancel out the negative effect of that food. Just you see the Arabs that always eat one whole baby goat a day, they never got sick just like when you eat pizza with the size of baby goat a day. :crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup:

I am thinking only large amounts of the high purity extract from Tumeric can cause a problem, the amount in food preperations is probably far too small.

The issue with something like aspirin and ace inhibitors is that the dose actually matters. A daily small dose of aspirin (80 mg or so) is often prescribed because it has been demonstrated to lower mortality in people suffering from heart conditions by clinical trials.

The exact mechanism of action is still a bit vague, but might have to do with preventing blood clotting.

Aspirin also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis which is the mechanism behind its anti-inflammatory action, but that generally requires much larger doses (500 mg a day or more).


I'm familiar with the Indonesian jamu - afaik a pretty general term for herbal medicine regardless of what it actually contains. With herbal products you can also get interactions, both with prescription drugs and even with other herbs.

One prime example of the latter is ayahuasca - a mixture of two plants found in south america that will make you trip your balls off and/or vomit all over the place. One plant contains DMT that is not effective orally, the other a MAO inhibitor that has little effect on its own either. But the latter blocks the metabolism of DMT in the liver so it becomes potent when eating resulting in a very spectacular effect for the combination, where one on its own does nothing.

I'm not aware of anything that spectacular in jamu, although the ingredients may vary around the country. If you start adding things like betel nuts in the mix things may get interesting (or deadly) quickly ;)

Well, I stopped using the Tumeric extract for several days and my BP spiked to 180 one night, I don't think using this stuff caused the problem, probably just stress. BP meds don't work well when stressed, you can have high BP from that alone regardless of the meds.

Stress certainly is a big factor.

Often in medical context the 'proper' BP is specified as that in rest condition, but even a visit to the GP may be stressfull enough to increase the actual value by quite a bit. Same goes for monitoring BP prior to surgery and such where the patient is stressed enough to get values that are far, far, over the resting value for that patient.

The same goes for heartbeat: Mine increases just when connected to a monitoring device that just beeps for every heartbeat - it drives me insane and makes my heartbeat to up by 20 a minute or so without any further duress.

I've been trying to find the problem with my BP for three weeks, I've dismissed the curcumin as a problem, as posted above, it actually helps reduce my BP, but I have two potential causes I believe are the reason; 600-1000 calorie a day intake for the last three weeks (I know, recommended for dieting is 1800 for men) is too low and for some people causes high BP, the other possible contributing factor was CPAP pressure too low. Sharing this info for the possible benefit of others who might experience the same thing.

I did a lot of looking around on the net to understand which natural remedies can reduce blood pressure and learned a lot, but these videos gave me some of the best information about that and cholesterol. The third video has info about eating a beet and half an apple every day instead of taking dangerous statins, tests have proven adding them to your daily diet to be more effective than statins! The FDA no longer recommends the use of statins to reduce cholesterol as they can cause Alzheimer disease later.
