That reminds me of the beginning of a Judas Priest concert opening with "Electric Eye" ! lol
"UP HERE IN SPACE, I'M LOOKING DOWN ON YOU, MY LASERS TRACE, EVERY THING YOU DO !" LOL
I still remember back in the day when rock bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Judas Priest first started to use lasers sparingly during a concert and how blown away every one was, It was all anyone could talk about for days ! "Hey remember when they shot the lasers around !" followed by "Ya, That was soooo cool !" lol

I remember a YES concert back in 1977 where they used a high power Argon to have hundreds of shafts of light that would shine straight up, then down into the audience and rotate them around the packed Colosseum in Houston with over 20,000 people. That was the very first laser show I ever saw at a concert.

Mine was Blue Oyster Cult and for some unknown reason i can't remember when lol, I believe it was 1976 and they would shoot lasers at a spinning mirror ball hanging center stage and laser beams would shoot all over the place ! Not really sure how safe that was but hey it was back in the 70's so i doubt it was ! lol I lived in Portland Oregon back then and there was a rumor going around that a kid got blinded by the effect during one of their concerts that year so everyone was DAM i have to go see that !

That photo you showed was a very tiny event compared to the YES concert I was talking about. It was enormous and the shafts of light were about 3 inches in diameter and were at varying rows to be seen all over the Colosseum, but it seemed perfectly eye safe. No one was harmed, but many were blown away.

Oh ya so was BOC's show ! I mean they had multiple lasers hitting the ball from dif angles and beams where flying everywhere, Really to be honest it didn't seem safe at all and the next year i heard it was banned and i never saw lasers used like that again.....

I've seen real spherical geodes as well, but those usually have a pretty thick outer wall on them. These fakes are about the size of an orange, and the outer edge is only 5mm or so thick, literally like an orange peel.
As far as what is ued on the inside: part of it could certainly be stained glass. It's not as bad as smashed up green and brown bottle fragments, but pretty flimsy.
I could try and find the things to get a piece of the interior out (it just breaks) and test for hardness - i would not be that surprised if it was just glass really. Given i already know they are completely fake there is little point to it. I just meant it as a cautionairy tale for people that want to buy something like that on holidays and such.
As for the big chunk of brilliant cut glass: I could try setting it on top of a laser to see what kind of beams come out - let me dust the thing off and see

Yeah, a real geode would certainly be thicker than 5mm. Knowing that, I wouldn't even be fooled by a photo. The faceted glass might have a nice effect with a laser.

Yeah, you and i know this, and after handing it i was certain it was a fake since it was that light in weight as well.
When i bought it both the vendor and i knew it was completely fake, dropping the price point we negotiated about by a factor of 10 without even saying anything about 'fake', perhaps 'artificial' at best to keep things polite.
They do scam people that believe those things are real, starting at prices of $100 or so, and i imagine some people do get a good feeling of negotiating that down to $30.
I aimed at $5 or so just to see what it actually was and to see how it was made - i guess the vendor didn't give a shit about that as he had a container full of them, and would sell it to me as long as i paid a bit more than his buying price.
