Another banned from LC - for PM's

Proof that LC reads ALL your pm's. In a PM i mentioned how crappy wicked lasers is and i get banned

Thats a bit over the top i think.

I guess it REALLY depends on to whom the PM was directed !

"uhh hay steve your lasers are sh!# and i hate you."

It was a PM to someone who just sold half a dozen electronic peices and was only a member on LC and thought that WL were the best lasers money could buy because they're the only lasers discussed there.

Maybe it was a trap!

Not really. Unless the LC terms of service explicitly state that PM's are private, you're willingly using a private service under someone's complete control. It's really no different than the case law in the U.S., U.K. and Europe that's about the expectation to privacy on company e-mails. In general the courts have ruled the expectation to privacy is zip, zilch, nada, zero.

So is LC slimy, questionable, and rude? Absolutely. Is it "Invasion of privacy" in the public and governmental sense of the term?

Nope.

well the thing is, PM does stand for "private message", i think it's reasonable for a person to expect privacy. but hell, i've given up expecting anything from WL. welcome to LPF, dingle!

How about here...are PM's read by other than the person being contacted??

I doubt that LC go through PM's looking to ban people lol.

A few weeks back, Athoul - LC moderator, was himself "banned" for some time. Even although folks have been banned, I think alot of "bans" was because of database, forum problems and not because LC was banning for no apparent reason. I was unable to post links because according to the forum I had below 25 post when I have 1899 posts.

Also, they have been introducing anti spam software to the site and I think that it created havoc with memberships etc!!

Honestly, they use phpBB software and it would be a complete hassle and time consuming mission going through, spying on thousands of PM's lol.

There seems to be a heightened state of "suspicion" & "conspiricy" these days surrounding everything..... :-/
