We've had some crazy wind here in California, fueling a few nice size wild fires (the typical yearly occurrence) and our internet at work lost connection yesterday but is back up today. The skies are clear and still, wait....no, that was just Superman. ok, no aliens yet.

IIRC, it's less than 1000 miles from anywhere in AL to Detroit, MI (ok, fine, I googled it, it's 981 miles from Mobile all the way to Detroit, and that is extreme southern Alabama). So I'm pretty sure it would be visible in over half of the continental United States if it was centered over Alabama and was 2000 miles across. In fact, if centered over the country better, it would stretch from Salt Lake City, Utah all the way to Washington, DC; and in the north/south direction, it would stretch all the way from Mexico into Canada.
If, that is, it wasn't all lunacy. That's the big caveat, of course, seeing as how it didn't happen and all.
