How about the wires's resistance, or the fact that the load is non-linear? I'm pretty sure the wire itself would have melted if it was in fact 5kA.

Still impressive though :) thanks for sharing

Had I short circuited the cable 5kA would flow, what the nail actually let through is anybody's guess. The 4ga wires did get pretty toasty though.
