That caption for that face palm is just terrible. F in sentence structure for the guy who wrote that.

Sure, the grammar sucks (it's not mine), but I figured people would get the point: this is ridiculous. Even more than that black hole thing with the particle accelerator.

Why December 21 2012?
If anything I would say November 11, 2011 at 11:11  :D

That's the date the Mayans recorded as being the end of their calendar's cycle.  Their cyclical calendar goes through 5126 years, then resets at zero.  That will happen on December 21, 2012.  Some people interpret that as being the Mayan prediction for when the world will end.

Also, it does have some astronomical significance, apparently during the winter solstice, 12/21/2012 at 11:11pm universal time, the sun will be in alignment with the center of the milky way for the first time in 26,000 years.  At least that's what an article in USA Today said.  Coincidence?  I think so.

Actually, there's contention about that apparently. Can't trust that popular press for science stuffs.

That video was a lot of crap. Some of us may or may not know that the Earth goes through cycles where there are more volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes and where the Earth heats up, it always has, and it always will. Mars even has global warmin. I'm not saying we aren't helping it in some way, but I doubt we are fully to blame for global warming.

Now to be perfectly honest, I don't think the world will end in 2012, I think there may be a war around that time, maybe even a world war, but I seriously doubt that it will bring about the end of the world.

If the world gets sucked into a black hole, no one actually knows what could happen, the black hole could create a wormhole, which would send the whole planet to another dimension, or another place or another time, nobody knows !

you dont think humans are responsible for global warming? i guess that big hole in the ozone from cfc's was just imagined....

Both are potential problems, but they are not really related.

i dont really believe in the whole 2012 thing. people speak of this 2012 end if the world w/e, the whole 2012 were all going to die nonsence thing came off of the myan calendar, a calendar we dont even use. we use the gregorian calendar and before that we used the julian calendar. still not the myan one. another thing i wonder... is this 2012 CE?, or was it 2012 BC? or was it 2012 years ago when this whole jesus thing came about lol? who knows. its pretty funny to me. all of these people worried about 2012 should move to iran where its still only the year 1387. time is a funny thing. there are many different definitions of time... but the best one i have heard was from l ron hubbard (no im not into scientology or whatever, he was absolutely crazy) where he defined it as "change of position of particles in space". but all across the world we are running on different time, i mean.... its night time on the other side of the world right now. then lets not forget about today. today is sept 10. the CERN test is today.. or was today. im not sure if that happened yet or not, but here i am on LPF. the world didnt end.. were not in a wormhole and i didnt get to meet the flying spaghetti monster like i had always wished. (shakes head thinks to self... dang it!) yet here we are...another day passed. i think if people want to worry about the end of the world they should do some research on cross species chimeras and GMO foods. that in my eyes really could destroy the biosphere and end the world... it least ours anyways. when i say ours i mean the human species, but then again there is alot of people out there who say there are too many peolple on the planet and most of us need to die to save mother gaya. i dont believe that either though. i know i kinda sidetracked but thats my thoughts on 2012.

^ You misunderstand the calendar thing. Dec. 21, 2012 in our current Gregorian calendar corresponds to the time which is the end of the cycle in the Mayan calendar. The end of the 5126 year cycle, basically the beginning of the Mayan new age and the change from year 5126 to year 0, when translated to our current Gregorian calendar, falls on what we call Dec. 21, 2012. The Mayans didn't say 12-21-2012, they said after 5126 years, it goes back to zero, and the 5126 years ends then. The Dec. 21 2012 cam from translating their calendar over to see where it ended up on ours.

Also, the LHC was tested successfully, but today/yesterday was never when the conspiracy ideas were even claimed to be possible. All they did was send one beam at a time, and all the doomsday theories are about actual collisions. Collisions won't happen for over a month, and high-energy collisions might not happen for a year or 2 yet. The time of worry for doomsdayers hasn't happened yet, and won't for a while.

Yes. About the Mayan Calander; it is actually supposed to be a new beggining, no one said anything about the world ending, could be a new government, new laws, or maybe some realization with religon. people just interpretted this as the end of the world.

That's another unfortunate characteristic of we humans....we have the tendency to assign unnatural causes to things that are natural. For instance, in ancient times people believed that dragons or monsters were swallowing the sun during solar eclipses. If a volcano erupted, then someone must have done something really, really bad to provoke the volcano god...

But I find it very interesting that in the medieval era there was a significant warming period, and things were so warm that people were able to grow grapes and other warmer-weather crops in Greenland! The internal combustion engine was still a few hundred years away from being a reality.....

I just wish something interesting would happen. ::)
I agree with frothychimp, this just seems like one of those stupid videos where people get WAY to smug and negative. :p This has been my 0.02 dollars.
