12000K HID's

I'm gonna be installing some on my car. This should be interesting:evil:
I've always loved the look of those blueish purple colored headlights it's so exotic. I'll get some pics up when the project is done.

I have to agree, albeit partially, with mfo. I don't mind HIDs when used for portable lighting or spotlights on vehicles, but HID headlights bother me, that bluish color is...just weird to me, and it hurts my eyes at night when I see people driving with them. Pics, none-the-less, will be appreciated.

eww, why would you want purple? It looks kinda dumb and ricey. Do not forget purple is more likely to get you a ticket and it can be a distraction to other drivers. I would not go over 8000k because anything higher looks cheap and actually reduces visibility. I prefer 6000k because it is diamond white with a hint of blue. I think Acura uses close to 8000k in their cars, but most nice cars use 4300k to 6000k.

Whatever you do is up to you just give it thought. Just don't tell me your going to be that idiot with the 60 watt HIDs blinding everybody. You also better have projector headlights.

As you can see, projector headlights cut off the light at a certain level so you are not blinding oncoming traffic.

just think about it and don't go cheap

Anyone that puts HID bulbs in halogen reflectors deserves to have their hind regions whipped.

Consequently, purple HID's are dumb. You loose all of the advantages of HID with a temperature that high. Standard halogens will give more lumens than that stupid purple color.

mfo - I assume you know this already. Not all HIDs are blueish or purple. My factory installed HIDs are 4200k.

I hate them all regardless. They're unneccessary and 9/10 of them blind other drivers. If you can't see the road with regular head lights then you really shouldn't be driving at night time.

My car already has factory HID's so basically I just need to install the new bulbs/ballasts and an adapter to make them fit the factory HID reflectors. The factory HID's are like 4500K though and I want something exotic. I mean how can you not like this color? Where I live the cops typically leave you alone unless you're doing other stupid crap and driving like a douchebag. In any event if I end up not liking them it will be cheap and simple to swap in some 8000K bulbs.

I have 6000K and it is quite blue when they Die I am going 5000K. 12000 is super purple with a huge loss in lumens, any long drives will pi$$ you off.

12k is annoying. It seems like every Silverado around my neighborhood has retrofitted their headlights AND foglights with them. Silverados are not meant for hids and and it subsequently blinds me to the point where I now have Phillips rally 100W's in my highbeams and they get used a lot. I have an Integra with projector lows and 4300k hids and I love them. I've heard that even on cars with projector lenses, hid's can create a different output pattern, not so with mine as I drew the profiles at 30' against my shop door and they matched the incans. The CPF guys say that 4300k is the best color for rendition with spotlights. That being said, everyone has their favorite color, and a factory equipped hid vehicle car going more purple shouldn't be a problem at all. Old Acuras and Audis are quite purple. Just don't blind me or you'll get the highs

4300k is probably the best. Those look white in the daytime, and slightly bluish at night (but mostly because of comparison to the other halogen lamps on the road)

What's wrong with purple? It's a great color, even for headlights, but at the expense of safety, which is never good.
